Anybody had any luck making a bootable CD? I need to run Norton and can't make a bootable CD.

If you have the OS 10.3 install CD, it can also be used as an emergency boot CD.

Hold down the C key while booting - it'll load from the CD instead of the HD.

Thanks guys, the article does not work on 10.3, there is a nice utility I found (Boot CD.6) that makes a bootable CD from your own system. The problem with using the Mac Cd is that it only boots to the install program or disc utility so you can not access the HD. I ran boot CD and now have a CD emergency boot disc that allows me to see the entire HD directory. Only problem is that Norton utilities wont run unless it is INSTALLED on the disc and you can't install it on a disc unless it has OSX RUNNING, and if my CD has OSX running it means the disc has been burned so I can not install Norton. I did copy Norton to the emergency disk but that is not the same as installing it. It runs but does not recognize any of the system folders. Oh well.

what do you mean, you can't access the HD when you boot from the OS X install CD?

Something's not right, bro... you should go straight to the Finder, only have the "CD" desktop wallpaper... yah it'll pop open the folder for the CD... but you should still be able to get to the other drives on the system. Once the Finder is up, you should (cross fingers) be able to swap disks and run Norton.

If you need a secondary CD drive, let me know. I'll see if I can't arrange bringing over my external CD-RW drive (it's USB and therefore slower than ****... but it'll mount and be visible...
