I have a Vaio laptop (grt - ??170 something) with an overclocke 2.8 gig processor and 512 megs of ram.

Current video is NVIDIA GeForce4 FX 5600 Go with 64MB. I have become hooked on America's Army and my Graphics card is a problem I think. I will pop up on a guy and be blown away before I get a chance to empty 3 rounds into him. This situation usually happens when something is close and a lot of graphics on the screen are changing.

Is there an upgrade or an I better building, or upgrading an older model to be a gaming computer?

i dont think that you can update the VAIO's. i know Alienware allows you to upgrade their laptops.

Personally go with upgrading an older PC into a gaming rig, the bad thing is you cant take it with you. But it is definetely worth it. and if your going to a LAN party then it would be helpful.

the "gaming" laptops are still too expensive around $2~4k.

Gaming computer would just be at home. Not a gaming laptop.

Posted in the WTB section.

Thanks

best bet would be a desktop
check the frys adīs for combo packages. the motherboard are usually crappy if u plan on overclocking and doing ALOT but otherwise for normal use they are good. they have what you need. since your in fremont i would recommend this site

www.atacom.com they have a good selection for a good price. Saves you money and time cuz you can get a decent deal. If you have heard of pricewatch thats also a good site but only for a thing or 2 cuz otherwise ur spending alot of money on shipping and handleling. also Atacom takes cash but if u use credit they charge 3% extra, even if its a Debit card. Ive boughten my last 2 full pc upgrades at atacom.com you can also go pick up there which is what i do since im only 5 mins away from the store.

Look around the site see waht you like. Do you want to go with Intel or AMD? nVidia or ATi? what ram speed are you looking for? do you want extra features on your mobo? i can help you build it and try to explain what you dont know. I can also show you what i got and maybe you want something similar to mine.

oh yeah i wont be in the bay area until sunday

another great place to look for gear is:
http://www.excaliberpc.com/

They are local as well and have great prices on good gear. The Fry's combo-mobos do suck, I'll 2nd that.
