how much hp does a ninja 250 have?

which would be a better bike for a small canyon tool / wife bike. a ninja 250, gs500, or ex500

You should ride them all and then decide (if possible).
and it depends on the skill level and how often your wife will ride it.

My vote is for the 250, my smaller half got one a lil while ago and I'm just now finding out how fun it is, but it is gutless as hell.

I've owned both the 250 and the gs500, and I'd have to say go with the ninja. It does have a lot less hp than the 500, but it's a lot more fun IMO. I had little problem keeping up with 600's on HWY 9 and despite it's small size I found it to fit well. (I'm 5'11'' 160lbs) Plus, I've found it to be an easier bike to work on.

As far as the actuall HP goes, they claim 36hp.

Cool, I guess it's not that much of a diffrence after all.

I'd say 11hp on a bike is at least a decent difference. I bought an EX500 for my GF, and I think the bike is pretty cool...besides being a Kawi:twofinger It sits at about 29 inches, and has reasonable mid to high-end power. It feels like a complete turd until about 6k...which only makes it safer IMO

I was talking about the diffrence between the 250 and the GS.

About 27 hp at the wheel, give or take a few hp due to tolerances and dyno differences.

But the 250 is light as a feather and carves up corners with ease.

Any of those bikes would be a good choice for a new rider but the experienced riders would likely be most eager to borrow the 250 or the EX 500, both of which handle well enough to allow for good backroads fun.
