nice pussy....i shoulda seen that one coming ;)

it was about an hour and 45 minutes.

dave- first tattoo at age 14, stopped at 7 at age 18.
i guess i am going thru an early mid-life crisis type thingy. past 10 years i tried to deal with myself on the inside and ignored the outside. recently i did other modifications and i felt great afterwards and my old ink is so old and faded that i decided that some fresh stuff would make me happy ;)

sonny, put the pipe down :p

it's NOT titus!

and it's saran wrap with gauze at the bottom to catch the blood. you take it off after 3 hours. i asked about the plastic and it seems that people are more likely to leave the dressing on longer since they can show it off to their friends right away.

You're probably right about the 69 part!

But the cat's eyes just show some perspective, just as parts of the body are slightly foreshortened. Rarely is a portrait or head done in an entirely orthographic view. Even then, no pair of eyes are ever the same size, just not natural.

Besides, that pussy is sweet!!

there will be twice as many stars and then the rest will be tied together with different color washes........someday i will have a 1/4 sleeve!

thanks for the pic, wiff!

WOW! really? they are SO hard to keep alive in captivity. i guess they've come along way to accomodate these little guys in captivity; they used to only last about a month before they would kick the bucket :(

some :nerd info for ya'll: tarsiers, aka miniature bushbaby, are the tiniest primate on earth and they live in thailand.

Your tarsier is not the wrong color. There are different ones. Here's a pic that matched your ink.

Oh, yeah, the Seattle zoo takes very good care of these little guys. And, the really, REALLY, cool thing about the tarsier habitat is that the barrier isn't glass, it's a screen! So, the tarsiers will sometime hang onto the screen, and you breathe the same air as they do, so, essentially, you can smell them.

Very cool spot. A good zoo, if in Seattle, make a trip. There's also a bug house that is very cool, and a timberwolf enclosure that will scare you witless if you go at zoo closing.

I was walking on a path through the timberwolf enclosure at dusk, and noticed that there was some activity as the wolves woke and started shadowing me. Then, I realized that the enclosure was on BOTH SIDES OF the path. And, only about 4' high. If they weren't well-fed, then I wouldn't be posting this.

phew! no more "retouching" :teeth

THANKS FOR THE PIC! when i got him done the first time 14 years ago, all i had was a sketch in a nature book (i also have the animal locomotion of "vertical clinging and leaping" with tarsiers 'jumping' around my ankle). i never knew what color they really were. i lost that book somewhere along my travels thru life :(
i kinda wish i had it now, but that part of my life is such a blur.....damnit.

i guess the screen is the trick to keeping the little guys alive. it seems like most noctournal exhibits are plexi/glass. i would love to see them in the fur someday; i'll have to check out SF and see if they ever got any set up. but if i am ever in seattle, i am DEFINATELY going to the zoo to see them!

i feel ya on the timberwolves. i used to work as a zookeeper at the SF Zoo and the wolf exhibit (and i use the term exhibit loosley) always creeped me out. wolves tend to be crepuscular/nocturnal and whenever i would leave work via the exit by the wolves, they would follow me along the cheapo cyclone fence. and they would begin to bay.

gsxrbabe- GREAT looking tattoos

gsxrbabe- if i may ask and to whoever has got any tattoos how does it feel when your getting inked and how does it feel after? does it hurt and how long does your skin take to heal?

i plan on getting a tattoo this summer...not someting as big as yours but maybe having my name written on my arm or something....where is tex located? do anyone know of any good shops they would recommend me to for just plain lettering tattoos?

if anyone can answer this questions or chime in let me know...

yes, but you don't want to see my :boobies right now......

i could wear a tank top or catch some hating by just wearing "pasties"........ :wow

supratkfy- it hurts, it bleeds, it scabs and flakes. you wont be able to ride for a week, or possibly longer depending on where you get inked.
i have many tattoos, even the back of my head, but by FAR the insides of my arms were the worst. but arms/shoulders, legs/butt are easiest.
ankle and chest (from what i've heard, i only have my ankle done, not my chest) are pretty painful.

initital healing is about a week to 10 days, and you should always try to keep it out of the sun and swimming pools if you want it to last. tex is on 16th/guererro, www.textattoo.com. she can do anything. hope this helps!

I had one done on my shoulder, in a single 3 hour session and rode RIGHT AWAY with full leathers from Santa Rosa to Alice's and then on to Monterey for a week of riding and watching the MotoGP.
I kept it clean and lubed and it never bleed, scabed or hurt very much. Flaked a bit after about a week and felt like I had it forever after 14 days.
Just goes to show ya, everyone is different.

gsxrbabe, I love the color behind the cat. Very classy.

thanks Lonster :blush

i was trying to figure out a way to make it look more like a sleeve but make all the "pieces" work. that arm is more "traditional" or sailor-like and i wasn't sure how the new "watercolory/space gas" type filler would fit in, but the guy made it work great!

you're correct- i'm different LOL :laughing
i have super soft/thin skin and use alot of red ink in large amounts sometimes and depending whre i get tattooed it can hurt for 3-4 days. but the reason i won't ride unless i have to for the first week is more to insure that the ink "sets" into my skin as nice as possible with minimal irritation ;) (and i sweat alot in my riding gear which is supposed to be a healing "no-no" that i've heard over and over :confused )

You definitely should not be sweating all over a new tattoo under leathers. The ink may look to be healing fine, and all skin is different, but exposing a fresh tattoo to that kind of heat and moisture is not going to help the tattoo in the long run.

Keeping it clean and not letting it get too dry probably helped. But if I wasn't sure how my skin received ink, I'd err on the cautious side.

Just my $.02

Oh, and Alex definitely is a delicate little flower. ;)

Not to start (or continue) an argument, but didn't tattooing start in places where the weather was very hot and humid (sweaty)?
I'm no expert (I only have one tat) but everything I read, and listened to says;
Keep it Clean.
Keep it lubed.
Stay out of the sun.

I didn't read anything about no leather, no riding and changing one's lifestyle.
Maybe I should do some more research......

Some of the earliest tattoos were done in Egypt (however there is data that suggests some were found in 3300 B.C. maybe even earlier.) I'm not sure about where cavemen roamed, but I don't think Egypt is too humid.

If you rode immediately afterward, you probably had it covered with plastic wrap or something. But who knows how hot it got under those leathers? Most people I know who ink would prefer you not sweat like crazy all over a fresh one. They would also prefer that your clothes are not causing friction and/or contact. The plastic would probably help. But you should remove the plastic after a few hours and if you put your leathers back on after that, you *might* be doing damage. Hey, if your ink looks good, you probably had a great tattooist, and everything is peachy.

I'm still learning a lot about tattoos, there's alot of opinions out there.

Tex, who inked Alex, is amazing.

That, my friend, is it.
INKY, in my humble opinion, is the best I have found.

oh come on, you like it!
actually, the artist who did the color behind the cat (tex did the cat) got really close to the plate with the 7 needle and HOT DAMN it nearly brought a tear to my eye! but he was really cool about it (and actually liked my plate :x :p) and his name is dan roberts, "Dan Roberts TAttooing". he is based in wyoming but is in CA alot due to traveling and i look forward to having him do more ink for me perhaps when the pomona show rolls thru in a couple months or when he's in the bay area visiting friends. he is really talented, friendly and said i was his 'favorite' customer off the weekend :blush

thanks Gragorin! :)

Tex did the cat and the "bearing flower" on my right arm (copied the left which was done first), jay (muerte) at Lucky Drive Tattoos did the bearing flower (and drew up the original art from my scribbling....lol) on my left arm along with the stars and touching up the tarsier (WD's fave ;) ). He is also doing the swallows and then on to the engine backpiece we go! :banana

a really super cool guy i met at the tat expo in august named Dan Roberts did the "space gas" filler around the cat; i did it on a whim when he said "no problem" using a spiral 'color wash' to pull all my piece-work together into more of a 'sleeved' look and i am very satisfied. he's based in Wyoming but is out here alot; he has family in antioch i believe. i need to send him a pic of it all healed- i would love to have him work on me again- he's lightening fast!

Frick'd- glad you got the pics posted! i heard the sternum is the most painful. i'll never have the pleasure of finding out, but man did the insides of my arms hurt. and i can't imagine what it feels like to tat over metal rods/plates. i got a little taste of it with the filler and it made my eyes water.
you've got some cool work- maybe you should start a thread about your tat progress....the more the merrier!!

777- i know, i know. but it's a sentimental thing. does it help that the birds measure about 6" as opposed to the usual 3 inchers? ;)
and that they are not in the stereotypical "just-above-my low-cut-jeans-chick-tat"? :p

i can't wait to get them shaded in! but being a little twig that i am, the ribs are no fun!

EDIT: Frick'd- i really like the stars :thumbup

i think i'm gonna be adding a few filler stars around the sparrows as we transition into motor parts/flames/flowers in my mid back, and only time will tell what else i'll add in. it's definately an addiction especially with the ink quality and colors these days and my butt-white but "soft" skin (that's jay's term for it....lol....which is actually kinda a pain because unless you pull my skin very tight the needle will skip :wow)

Frick'd- definately start one.....it'd be cool to have an "ink from around the world" thread.....i wish i could travel the world and get tatted. are you in the service?

my tarsier was originally done in SF by Theo Jak in '91, who now lives in Norway- does that count? :laughing

'Beezi- will do ;)

Hornet- i can't recall exactly what i paid (around $300) after set-up fees and tip, but she charges a set-up fee and then hourly. i know she specializes in cowgirls, but she can definately do anything and if you don't have a drawing, she is an excellent artist and can draw something for you. it's best to talk to as many artists as you can and go with your impression of them; the SF bay area has some of the best tattoo artists!

so we did the left sparrow this past saturday- pretty traditional colors, but i'm happy- i think i rambled about it being a sentimental thing earlier in the thread.

enjoy! the right one will be shaded later this week hopefully. (i needed one 'good side' to sleep on! getting both outlines at the same time {and both inner arms at the same time!} taught me to be a little more patient :blush )

(and the red spots are from tape :) )

and a pic to compare the shading to the outline before they are both filled....kinda neat and gives some perspective on it :)
