Just wanted to say hello, my husband just got me a ninja 250 & still learning. This site looks like a great place to begin in my journey in the world of sportbikes. I have a couple questions, i have a 86 ninja ex250 with 23k miles which i paid $850 for. It runs & looks good, just wanted to know if anyone had info on this particular bike. Is it reliable? is 23k high mileage? and what problems am i likely to face in the future? anything along those lines would be appreciated since neither my husband nor I know much about the bike. I love my bike & ride it as often as possible & is plenty fast for me and since i am 5'3 its just about the only bike i can reach the ground on. Love the site:)

thanks!

welcome to the site
a lot of welcomes and not much info....

23k isn't too much milage as long as the bike is properly maintained.

take it to a good mechanic (there are several here on barf, i'm sure you will be able to figure out who to see) and have them check it out to catch up on any missed maintenence

maybe chain and sprockets, if they haven't already been replaced.

Chain and sprocket are probably ready to be replaced.
Since you only have $850 into the thing, I would recommend bringing it to a mechanic. Just on the point of a safety check.

Also, learning on something that is loose or handles sloppy isn't any fun, you might not notice since you don't have anything to compare it to.

Hello there.. I ride an '03 250 and thinks its the pefect bike to learn on.. its also the only one i can fit on too :(
there is a Ninja 250 site that has all kinds of great info on how to's, tune up's, problems and answers, and mods you can make. i really learned a lot on that site. check it out
http://www.ninja250.net/faq/rcfaq/profile/

I would definitely have a trusted mechanic check it out and tune up because you never know what problems you might be buying into with a used bike.. peace of mind knowing its all good.

Also, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.. i just might know the answer :) enjoy your new bike:)
