I bought my bike used from Mission Motorcycles about 2 1/2 weeks ago with 2100 miles on it. When I asked them how much the 3000-mile service ould be, they quoted me $350-$400 without parts/fluids. Ack! I decided to give SD a try instead. Alan quoted me $280 without parts/fluids, and I trekked up to Petaluma yesterday with 2960 miles on the odo.
Good decision, as it turns out. Loose motor mounts, condensation in the brake reservoirs, cruddy oil and brake fluid, low coolant, carbs out of synch, and on and on. Hmmm. I have to wonder what Mission did to "prep" the bike for the floor? Apparently nothing important. I also curse the previous owner, who apparently didn't take the thing in for its 500-mile service. What's wrong with people? Sheesh.
At the end o' the day, I ended up spending the same amount of money MM had quoted me for service without parts/fluids, but I got high-quality oil, brake fluid, an oil filter, a bottle of chain lube, AND a swank t-shirt too.
To sum up, I would recommend SD to anyone interested in a no-BS, square-dealing experience. As a newb, it was great to see the work being done and to have the opportunity to get direct feedback about the condition of the bike.
Thanks Alan, from me and my bike.
