My VTR1000F needs a new chain and sprockets.
It was recommended that I buy the chain brand-DID, style
530 ERV series with rivet style master link.

My shop manual states DID 50 ZVM or RK 50LFOZ2
102 links.
The website where I want to order the parts says-
DID ER series 530ERV 13-DID-530 ERV.
I am confused beyond reason

Also, should I order metal or aluminum sprockets?

the website I am looking at
www.kneedraggers.com

btw, my VTR is a 98
and it is red
if that matters:teeth :laughing :laughing

steel sprockets, aluminum doesn't last long & your probably not racing (this year :D)

call cycle gear or road rider for the correct size cuz i don't know

no, not racing this year nor
lifetime actually.
Steel it is then.
I will call around or visit Scuderia if anyone is open today for
business to check on the chain specs.
Appreciate the help.

Melissa - get the aluminum sprockets if you park your bike outside. They don't rust due to a thin oxide layer that naturally protects all aluminum exposed to oxygen.

(Chemists in the crowd --- I know the oxide is technically a "rust" okay, so save your .02$ thanks)

I park both in and outside but my bike
is parked outside near the ocean when I go to work.
Hmmm, more things to consider.
Thanks again.

Melissa,

It sounds like you got exactly what I got (on order). I've got a chain-riveter if you need it.

Or, if you can hold off for a week or so, you'd be more than welcome to come over to our new place to help me break in my new garage. We can have a chain/sprocket installation party. :thumbup

I arranged for someone else to help me with installation already
but thanks tons for the offer. I love theme specific parties.
Melissa

hope to see you Wed. eve?

I wasn't thinking party so much as a "misery loves company" type thing. :D But I'll probably end up hosting a tech day or two in the coming months; once I get settled and get a feel for my neighbors in my new 'hood.
