hey How much commute /riding were you doing on the XR?
how did it work out riding that with supermotard tires in the city?
I am interested, I ve been looking for a good deal on these....
Thanks,
Great looking bike, should go fast!

commute was good w/ this bike though i only did it a coupla times. high(er than a sportbike) to see further in traffic, corbin seat makes longer rides/commute better. torque does the rest for grins. though it has been regeared so it's not revving sky high on the freeway. helps w/ mileage too. still plenty of power to pull away.
tires stuck like glue.
recheck PM
What's the seat height with the lowering link in place?

thanks for the bump!! :thumbup definitely a well built motor. it's aircooled and very simple to work on. no need to mess w/ a cooling system ;) still has enough power for everything you'd need on the street...except squidly high-speed runs on 280...it can hold it's own on the freeway but it's happiest around town or in the goat trails and twisties.

This is a badass bike! I can vouch for the fun of XR650's. Probably the most fun street bike I've ever ridden (seriously)
Wanna trade for a GS500? :D

Stock XR650L seat height is 37". Lowering links usually lower the bike about 1-1.5". Raising the fork tubes in the triples about 3/4" helps too. Then of course going from 18/21" stock wheels and high profile tires to 17" low profile tires takes it down another 3" or so.
Stock = 37"
Link - 1.5"
17s -3"
So I'd guess it's about 33" or so as it sits. Of course these bikes are also designed to have about 4" of sag with the rider aboard, so that gets it down there.
I am inseam-challenged (28") and my XR650L 'tard WITHOUT a link and with the forks at stock height lets me almost flatfoot it with both feet.

I commute about 55 miles a day on the freeway on mine, rain or shine. It cruises at 65-75MPH just fine with 15F/43R gearing. I have almost 37,000 miles on mine.

when's the bike registered to? (strange question, I know, but I have my reasons!)
MackeyStingray

registered till may
How hard is it to put passenger pegs on? Also is that seat lower than stock?
MackeyStingray
03-30-2005, 02:32 AM
haven't tried. would need to fab something up and i'm not sure where'd you mount em...
it's a corbin seat + lowering link + lowered front so it sits lower than stock. michaeln posted more info on this a few posts up.
