View Full Version : Body armor under leathers?

Just wondering if anyone has worn body armor such as the Dainese jackets/body suits under their leathers. The idea of that amount of protection is appealing, but don't know if it's redundant to do so or if there's enough room.
The armor:

Assuming that the fit is snug, I'm wondering if having two sets of pads on the shoulders, arms and knees/legs will end up being detrimental vs. one.
Thanks for any info, advice. :)
If your leathers fit properly, the additional armor should not fit under them.

Thanks kevo, much appreciated.
If it were up to me I'd want to ride in head-to-toe armor, the kind where you can fly off the bike at 100mph, scrape over shards of broken glass for two minutes, roll down a mountainside, get run over by an eighteen-wheeler,.... then get up and walk away. :P

Watch out... irony has a sick way of following people. I'd hate to see a "RIP melancoholic due to fly off the bike at 100mph, scrape over shards of broken glass for two minutes, roll down a mountainside, get run over by an eighteen-wheeler" thread :laughing
And the only way I'd way that nonsense if if I had to wear a suit everyday to work and wanted to keep my armor on all day. Imagine how crazy you'd look with that nonsense under your business suit! :wow

When I bought my leathers, they fit snugly, but the armor in the top never fit in the right place, like the back of my elbow was never being covered. So, I took the armor out and wear the top to the suit you have above. Much more comfortable, doesn't move even if the leathers move, and the integrated back protector adds more protection.
Forget hot, you wouldn't be able to move around enough to ride the bike.
Well fitting leathers work best. If you have to change padding like hellfyre, you're better off getting your current suit altered for you. Or getting a custom made one. Even if I took all the padding out my suits, that armor still wouldn't fit in my leathers. They're made for wearing under street clothes.

No need if you're wearing a decent suit.
If you think you need more armor under the suit you have then you might want to consider buying a set of leathers you trust. It's your ass.

Do you wear a mask, or do we pretend we don't know you are really . . . Cycle Man.

Hahah....where can I get this "under-suit" armor?

Nice thing about the Dainese body armor is its versatility. It can be worn for non-cycle sports like snowboarding.
Too bad they don't have a slimmer, soft version of the dainese body armor which could complement the leather suits.
Thanks for the helpful replies. I'll invest in a good pair of leathers w/armor. Sounds like it's the way to go.

Whoh! Sounds like you wanna be the next Terminator! :laughing
But i agree w/ Kevo....if your leathers fit proper, then the additional armor should not fit! If they do....then thats a problemo!
Built in armor should be ok! Gettin a "turtle shell" or addtional back armor wouldnt hurt, for X-tra protection!
Alipnestars,Vanson....have pretty good built-ins....not over bulky...need not fear to be hindered in the joints!
Check out Road Rider in San Jose....good selection of leathers there!
