Here I am trying to save up for a used dirt bike or something, and those stinking KTM marketing guys, just becuase I'm a previous purchaser of a new KTM Supermoto, send me this announcement that I can get any new KTM for no payments / no interest until Jan 2006.

What do they think I am, an impulse buyer?!?!?

Just out of curiousity, are the KTM 2-stroke EXC models green sticker? I can't find info about it on their website.

No, no current model-year two strokes are green sticker eligible.

Also, while they do have incentivized rates right now, I'm pretty sure that the no down and no payments til 06 deal is mutually exclusive of the incentivized rates. There are several EXC 4 strokes that are green sticker though.

True, but I did see some great deals at Redwood city KTM, etc. so you can get the diesel for a steal.

So did I... :teeth

And now my wallet is a bit lighter.

edit--> And I'd avoid the no down/no payments deal unless you can pay it off by january. The actual rate is pretty high (like 18%). You can also do 4.99 for 24 months.

Cool thing is that when you finance, they throw in a 2 year extended KTM warranty. I was originally thinking about paying cash, but it was a pretty schweet deal.

Funky, I'm not getting notified anymore about replies to threads :(

The offer is no payments no interest for a year, doesn't say anything about down payment. It involves applying for the KTM Card, and I presume you can then charge as much as the credit limit when buying the bike.

The killer financing deal would be to buy the bike on the 0% interest deal, pay off as much as possible, then do a bal xfr to another account's super low bal xfr teaser option, and finish paying it off.

In truth, though, I don't think I'll be dirt biking nearly enough to justify $6 - 7,000 on a new KTM, I'm looking to spend around $3000 on a lightly used KLX300 or something like that.

you're right. I meant to say no interest no payment, not "no down."

The OTD on the one I bought ended up only being a few hundred more than a CRF250X. And for that few hundred more, it came with a 2.5 year warranty (as opposed to a zero day warranty).

Yet to really ride it, but I'm pretty excited. And I can't really justify a new bike either, but I was finding that the prices on used thumpers weren't so good. I was thinking of getting another used 2 stroke mx bike (which would have been ok), but then I got my bonus check and impulse buying kicked in :teeth.

That's good food for thought. What did you wind up getting?

Nice, congrats!

As a dirt n00b, I think I'd lean towards the EXC250 4-stroke, and see about putting a big-bor on it later. Didn't Joe Bar do that? I wonder if I can search the Dirt forum...

Yes, we put a 351cc big bore kit in my wife's 250 EXC. It is a totally different animal now. She loves it! The 250 was lacking torque and low end and she had to rev the crap out of it to make the steep climbs and would crash if she let the RPM go down. With the 351 she can ride one gear higher and not rev it but just use the torque.

KTM is coming with a redesigned 250 4-stroque in 06. It is supposed to be the most powerful/lightest 250 4-stroque on the market. If you can wait until August/September until they come out..... Link 06 EXC 250F (http://ktmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=100382)

Man, you guys suck. You're like the worst friends ever. If I wind up with a brand new KTM in 4-5 months, it's all your fault and I am not to blame. So make sure you tell my wife that, OK? :p

I had been calling around, trying to locate a new 625 SMC to buy, and heard from Moore and Sons that KTM will release a new and improved LC4 engine in 2006. My '02 was my favorite bike of all time, but it unfortunatly didn't make a good "only vehicle." Now that I have a truck for back-up transportation, I'm back in the market! :teeth

But can I fight the temptation to buy two new KTM's at the end of the year? Only time wil tell...

Wowee, I can't believe the 450 is $7000! :wow
That's as much as a real motorcycle!!!!

Is there anyplace that rents them? To date, my only dirt-biking experience is with my cousins' CR250 and CRF150. I liked the 150's torque, and I preferred the CR's power & suspension & size.

I think my anti-squid reflex is kicking in. On the one hand, I think buying a 450mxc for my dirt debut is overkill, and I should work my way up, learning how to control a bike in the dirt...
On the other hand, 450cc is like cutting my TL's motor in half, and I spent two years on a 640 LC4, and my throttle control is legendary, so what's the big deal?

Hmm, I think what it comes down to, is will I be able to go often enough to get value from a $7000 bike? Hmm...

Montery Motorcycle Rentals http://www.montereymotorcycles.com has a KX-250F and CRF-450 for rent (along with a KDX-220, CRF-230, CRF-150, and then other small Hondas). They also rent all the gear.

I've used them twice and it was great. They were planning to get a CRF-250X and 450X in as well as set up an enduro-ized 2002 2 stroke motocross bike (green sticker).

I've had street bike friends and guys that rode 15 years ago wanting to try it so we've done 2 Hollister trips so far. Everyone had a great time and a couple of them are planning to not even buy a bike. One guy rented a CRF-150 the first time, then the CRF-230 the next time, and will probably get the 250X the next time. Very flexible with renting. I ended up buying a red sticker bike (because I wanted a 2005 2 stroke) so I plan to rent the 450X a few times this summer.

I was commenting on the two wheel toys. Already have the Tuono, but my next street ride will be an FJR1300. That KTM looks awfully sweet too.
