Hey,
You would not happen to have a picture of Kevin at Laguna when he rode the Pepsi bike AND worn his Camo' helmet in support of our troups durring Desert Shield? The officials made him remove it. I think I only saw him use it on the warm up in the morning on race day.

Not really, and I wouldn't expect to see that at our GP in July. I think there was 100,000+ people there for that race, and they delayed it for an hour so the crowd (& racers, I'm sure) could watch the World Cup Final from S. Korea.

I have boxes of this stuff, and anyone will who knows me will tell you I'm not exactly the most organized person, so I'll dig around some more and see what I can find.

I missed a couple GP's ('89 I was in Europe, but I did see it on TV there, '91 a cousin had the audacity to get married the same day as the GP, & they didn't have one in 92) when they were here, figuring they'll have many, many more. WON'T make that mistake again!

Wayne Gradner never had good luck at Laguna, and 1990 was a particularly bad year for crashes, the race was red flagged at least once, maybe twice.

But Magee had the worst of it. This red flagged the race, and feared the worst when we saw it, but I think he was relatively ok when he came to. This again was in 1990. I think he was also the rider that hit Bubba Shobert and ended his career in '89.

The track has a lot more run off in turn 6 now.. turn two used to be a wicked fast lefty with a hillside right there..:wow

I have ridden the track in all of the configurations..and the current is the safefest by far..but I think the MotoGP guys who have never seen it will be freaked..a little and think it is not safe..we'll see.

Deacon, yes, but I think these 2 were the even rarer aluminum framed RZ-R's.

Roberts came out of retirement for one last ride in front of the home crowd in 1985. I went out to the races on crutches because I broke my leg in a bicycle accident just before graduating from UCSB, so this was really the best I could do.

In February 1983 my friend that owned the CB1100R was testing a race car at Laguna Seca, he raced Formula Atlantic. That day he shared the track with with the Yamaha team & Michael Andretti.

What's up with T-6?

I've seen some crazy crashes there. The one that sticks in memory the most was seeing a rider some how dis-mount his bike and watching his bike continue on all the way up the hill to T-7 :loco From a spectators view, it doesn't look to be all that technical ......other than carrying a lot of speed up the hill from T-5 :confused

fwiw, during the 90's I visited Laguna often, so I know the track lay-out very well, but have never tracked it personally.

It is indeed, even down to the truncated fairing! :toothless

(I'd guess an FZR750 with the 'street' half fairing... the race model had bodywork that went all the way down and under the headers.)

weird....those bikes seem to have two differnt tails, even though they do seem like the same bike elsewhere.....maybe one is a factory and one a privateer?.....but they seem like team mates with the leathers and sponsors?

I think the 500's had the yellow backing & the 250's had green, and if you were a rookie they had a letter that they added to it.

I think that's Rainey. What year did superbikes go from 1000's to 750's... 1983? Spencer & Lawson already moved up, the Interceptor was Honda's big weapon, and Rainey stomped them all... but i could be wrong...

Amazing that Sadowski only had one win! At least it was the right win (Daytona). Ah and then there was Arnaiz (AFMer) #2 in AMA Superbike, European SB champion (if I remember, with the same team that took Merkel to the WSB Championship) and then one crappy year with Commonweath Honda.
