i'm thinking about getting some kinda emergency road service. MTS (Motorcycle Touring Services) is offering 2 years for the price of 1 right now but i haven' heard anything about them. anyone ever use 'em?

http://www.mts-towing.com/default.asp

i also heard that AAA is now offering road service for motorcycles now as well.

Thanks for sharing. I had been wondering if there was such a program out there providing towing for a motorcycle. If anyone does have experience with this MTS program, let us know.

Although I don't know if AAA offers motorcycle assistance, I do know that AAA is now writing coverage for motorcycles in Northern California.

AAA will bring you gas if you run out (don't ask how I know)...

They MIGHT tow you if the contracting company in the area you break down in has the right equipment...

Yes, they are writing insurance in NorCal. You can do a quote on their website...

MoTow thru the AMA is a good deal too... They will tow any bike regardless of age/condition etc...

well, i tried to sign up with MTS and man, they are a mess! at the time i signed up online, only bikes newer than 1975 were eligible for their premier and deluxe plans ( my bike is '77 and i signed up for the premier plan).

then, i get an email from the MTS president saying that i am only eligible for the deluxe plan. when i finally get through to the guy by phone, he tells me that i am no longer eligible for either plan since they raised the cutoff date to 1980 for both.

he would not honor the offer he made via email or the advertised plans at the time i signed up. what a fuckwad! if that is their idea of customer service i would be real scared to count on them for road service. hopefully, there is something better out there...

Thank you for sharing your horrible experience with someone who doesn't understand the value of good customer service. Sorry to hear of the news. Just for a bit of knowledge, I'm sure there are times you'd rather someone come to you (without you owing a favor) -- or when you are traveling long distances from home, but...

hitch installed on your car - $250 or less
open trailer - $500 maybe? more or less
1 portable aluminum ramp - $125 (or get two if you like the added stability)

I'll be doing just that for my cycle.

Oh, and nice backyard!!

I've had MoTow for a couple years. Used it twice. Great service to have. $25/year vs. $80 for 1 tow.

AAA does offer MC ins and it is underwritten by ACA Insurance Company.

The funning thing is they require you to pay for their AAA Roadside Assistance program in order to get their insurance coverage, but then they charge you again if you want to add tow coverage for your MC!

I have AAA ins and I have joined the Honda Riders Club. The Honda club got me a discount on my insurance as well as tow coverage.

In your case the Honda club might be a good option to look into.

Hi Patrick, do you have a web site address you would share for MoTow?

Don't you need to be a member of the AMA in order to qualify for the MoTow service? If yes, the real cost would be $39+25= $64. RIght?

i may be mistaken but... is it true that the Honda club will not tow for a flat tire? not sure where i heard that though.

I have M/C towing through AAA roadside assistance of SoCal. It's part of their Motorcycle/R.V. add on.

While you have to be a member of SoCal AAA, it's good thoughout the state, and all the northern california AAA shops offer full services as well.

It's a viable option for those wanting towing protection!
