That sucks. It doesn't even seem major. I would be pissed off if it was an unpaid traffic ticket or something. And then to possibly loose your contract becasue of it???????

Yea, I doubt they'd arrest him and have another county pick him up if it wasn't a serious issue...

That's a fucking shame. I remember reading about Tony as he grew up. I remember his posting here last year. He is very close to being illiterate.

He's still a young man. I hope he straightens his act up.

The only concrete information I've found is that it was a misdemeanor warrant. I talke dto a couple of cops at the track and the general opinion was they don't come after someone for a misdemeanor warrant, so someone in system really has something against Tony.

It's got to be Mladin. It wasn't good enough to be better than everybody else. He had to send his team mate out to "eliminate" some of the backmarkers, then use traction control, now he's got the police weeding out the competition.

Seriously, I hope it's a misunderstanding because he seems like a great kid.

It is'nt Mladin,he did'nt have any competiton at Sears:laughing
Tough break for Tony, saw Montano out in Superstock 'filling in' for him.
I worked for a kid from Japan,Akira Tamitsuji, that might end up getting the Corona ride.He rode the superbike race (28laps)and when he came in he did'n evn break a sweat!I asked him if he was tired,he said no,superbike was warm-up race:wow He finished 17th in superstock, got down into the low 1:41s,not too bad considering he has NEVER been to Sears before.

Meiring mum after arrest at race track

Robert Dietz
Tracy Press

Published May 16, 2005, in the Tracy Press.

Tony Meiring of Tracy was preparing for American Motorcycle Association Superstock practice in the paddock at Infineon Raceway on Saturday morning when he was arrested by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department on a misdemeanor warrant from the Tracy Police Department.

“(Saturday) morning at about 8:30 at the Infineon Raceway … he was arrested on a warrant that was issued out of Tracy Superior Court,” Lt. Craig Wiseman of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department said Saturday.

Wiseman said the warrant was issued for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Because of good behavior, Meiring was released on a citation and given a notice to appear in Tracy Superior Court on June 22.

Meiring was never booked into jail, nor did he post the $10,000 bail issued on the warrant.

When contacted, Meiring said he had no comment on the matter.

Meiring, 21, who is in his first year with the Corona Extra Suzuki team, is in 28 th place on the leaderboard for this year's AMA Superbike Championship. Corona Suzuki team principal Tony Saunders said Saturday that he was still waiting to hear “what this is all about,” and that he hadn't spoken with officials.

“Apart from rumors and speculation, I do not know what this is in regard to,” he said. “At the moment, his contract is suspended until we receive some official notification.”

Sounds like a mad girlfriend's parent to me...

And I saw Montano was on his own CBR600RR Formula Extreme bike with the 56 number. Did he mount up on Tony's big bike too?

“As I understand it, our office received a call from the Tracy (California) Police Department asking us to serve a warrant. They sent us a copy of the warrant for his arrest, a misdemeanor warrant, and asked us to serve it. They have a valid warrant for his arrest from a judge down there. So we came over, arrested him, and he understood the nature of it and was a gentleman about it,” said Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff Richard York.

No girl involved. No need to jump to conclusions :rolleyes

I've never met Tony, but know a lot of friends that actually know him. Everyone thinks very highly of him, really a shame his career has to be put in jeopardy like this, BUT, if I had a warrant out for my arrest, I would do EVERYTHING to take care of it and NOT let it affect my JOB. Getting arrested at work is NOT the fault of the PoPo, or the judges fault, it's Tony's fault, and I really wish someone would have helped him take care of this in private. GP

Strange that in the RRW Cribs article about Meiring, he mentioned something about some people in his hometown giving him some flack.

Weird foreshadowing to later being arrested at an AMA event for something that happened in Tracy.

Corona won't drop him? If the arrest is in relation to underage drinking, that looks bad for team Corona.

I'm pretty sure he got arrested for talking to SACNUTS earlier in the day. I never knew the kid to be a drinker, maybe he changed when he turned 21.

I just spoke w/Tony by phone about 30 minutes ago.

I did not wish to ask him or even know about about any details surrounding this incident, but he indicated it was a misunderstanding and his team owner, attorneys, agent and family are supportive and behind him all the way and he expects to quickly have this matter resolved with no adverse legal consequences.

He sounded as positive as could be expected after what must have been the most embarrasing moment in his life. Tony has a great attitude, and although he is aware that there are rumors floating around about what happened, he has been advised that the 'official' statement can't be published until the matter is completely resolved.

Please try and withhold judgment and conjecture until the facts have been confirmed. Even though most of us are much less in the limelight than Tony, imagine how we'd feel if something like this happened to us and when it all came out in the wash, we were completely vindicated but would still have to deal with the shadow of untrue rumors and negative opinions flying about. I guess that is part of the game when one is, by profession, very much in the public eye, but let's back up one of our own as we'd hope to be backed up ourselves if the circumstances were in our own backyard.

Just my .02.

Maybe he had a charcoal BBQ in the pits? That'll bring out the cops every time.

Hope it works out for him.

This thread just won't die.....

When was the warrant issued?

I worked with a carpenter who had his girl friend arrested on Thanksgiving. They came to the house in Livermore and took her away in front of her 2 kids. She could have avoided it by just taking care of her shit.........but nooooooooooo she decided to put it off and........Happy Thanksgiving kids.........

Not affiliated, sorry :( Just quoting an article I saw. And yes you are correct in that they could have let him race and taken him in afterward. . .however being that it was another agency that asked to have him arrested that is no longer an officer discretion issue. At that point the officer is there under orders :(

It sucks all the same.

Can you imagine if he ran and took off down the pit lane into turn one? That would have been a rather funny police pursuit- CHP motor officers getting smoked on the track trying to apprehend him. :laughing :laughing :laughing

Here is Team Corona's spin on the situation...

http://www.corona-racing.com/html/infineon05.html

"In an entirely surprising event, Tony Meiring missed final qualifying as well as the races, having been required by authorities from his hometown of Tracy California to assist in their inquiries of allegations made against him - and apparently unbeknownst to him - by another individual. Though details were not officially released, and the Team had no prior knowledge, sources indicate these accusations relate to an occurrence several months ago, before Tony commenced racing for Corona Extra Racing/Suzuki.

The team fully expects and is looking forward to Tony’s exoneration. As soon as details are officially released, the Team will issue a statement regarding any decisions made over this situation."

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=22972

Tracy, CA: Citing lack of evidence, the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office has dismissed all charges against Tony Meiring.

Meiring has no comment on the entire episode other than to say that he is relieved to have his focus back on racing.

Says Meiring, "The Corona Extra Racing Suzuki team has been great through all of this. I also have the greatest fans, friends and family that any racer could possibly hope for. I am looking forward to getting back aboard the Corona Extra Racing Suzuki and showing them how much their support has meant to me."

Tony will be getting his chance when round 6 of the AMA Super Bike Series comes to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin June 5, 2005.
