My name is Alaina.
I live in San Luis Obispo and have been riding dirt for two years. My bike is street legal but I am looking to spend more time on road. I would like to find a newer (2000 or later) Kawasaki Ninja 500. I would also be up for suggestions for other light weight sport bikes that favor a more upright position. If I can figure out how to add a pic I will-this one is of my best friend and I (I'm on the left)......

Bronze!!! YES!!! Welp, I say go for the SV 650 by Suzuki if you are seeking a more upright position. I know a few women with them and they are all beyond happy with everything about it.

We go to Pismo a lot and maybe next time we come down I'll PM you and we could get together or you could just roll out to the dunes for some sandy fun with our crew.

Ciao,
Kendra

Welcome. Depends on the style you want, but the Honda 919 and 599 are nakeds that are more upright. I had a 919. Nice bike for an upright. Brutal lowend on that thing. http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles/sport/model.asp?ModelName=599&ModelYear=2004&ModelId=CB600F4

Not sure how tall you are, but some of these may be right:

Visit dealerships' used bikes and sit on as many as you can (off the kickstand) to see which feel right to you... :cool

Happy shopping! :)

The 599 is also based on the Honda F3, so the engine has a lot of history and it's a proven platform.

Suzuki's GS500S has a full fairing, which can make longer distance riding easier. It has GSXR sportbike looks, but a little more upright seating position.

Cycle World puts out a buyer's guide every year about this time. Look for it on newsstands at Border's or the like, or check their website. That will give you specs from all the major manufacturers (price, displacement, etc.) in one package. Find what you like, go to the dealer and sit on a few. You might even be able to swing a test ride or two, as long as you have your M1 endorsement.

How's the twisty riding down there? Should we do a group ride to come visit? :toothless

The "medals" are their way of claiming first welcome. It's an old tradition, it will make more sense the more you visit. Another term you are bound to encounter is "leghumper". Just shoo them off with a broom or stern admonishment, they scare easy.

Oh yeah, that guy in the front seat of your photo is a real bonehead.

WElcome! to :barf

I used to live in SLO town. A town that certainly lived up to its name. The repairmen always showed up 1 or 2 days later then they stated, but they always showed up on the stated time just the wrong day.
