I've noticed the same thing switching brands, even on my street bike. Tires are the key to the whole package, and they have different construction, different sizes and different profiles. I found a world of difference going from Dunlop 208GPs to Michelin H2s on my street bike - just a tremendous improvement in handling and especially trailbraking. Next year I think I'll give Michelins a try on my racebike (have been running Dunlops), but I'm sure I'll have to do a couple track days to get things dialed in first.

The biggest mistake that most people make when switching tire brands is not compensating for the tire circumference. Sag will not change but due to different sidewall stiffness you may need to adjust your comp and rebound to find your idea "feel". Usually when switching from a Pirelli or Dunlop to a Michelin front tire you will need to drop your front-end 5mm to regain the previous geometry due to the taller profile.

If anyone is considering trying Michelins, try a S2 front and a M2 rear. I wouldn't recommend the H2 front for track duty.

Good luck.

Well put kneedrag, when ever I tried different brand tires it took me a couple of practice sessions to tune my suspension, not to mention get use to the characteristics of the tires.

BTW, kneedrag, just got my copy of RRW - excellent article! I enjoyed reading it - sounds like quite an adventure. Very well written, too - are you a writer in your day job? Cheers,
