I'm just curious. Why was my name never added to the list of: "Give everyone a warning instead of a ticket at least once in there life"?

Over 20 years of riding and driving, I've had maybe 15 pull-overs. Some of which were as minor as 40mph in a 35mph zone. And this was simply because I entered the road and accelerated to merge safely with traffic. (I won that one). Still, every time I was stopped, I was given a ticket. I respect law enforcement who put their lives on the line everyday and I was always polite when stopped.

I'm hoping that irony or Murphy's law or something similar will come into play here seeing how I'm bitching about this and I will probably be given a warning the next time I get stopped. :teeth

Just remember that YOUR attitude determines the LEOs latitude.

Again, as I said, I was always nice. Although one time I was in a bad mood and got stopped for something trivial. When the officer said: "Do you know why I stopped you?" I said: "Because I have donuts in the trunk?"

I got a ticket.....:wow

Ya, I don't know. I've been let off when I thought the book was going to be thrown at me and I've gotten tickets when I thought I did nothing wrong. Just the luck of the draw I suppose. But Keep up the politeness, it never pays to be rude to the law.

I think I got skipped over to have my name put on the 'give a warning to this guy' list, too.

And yeah, attitude helps. At the very least, the 'transaction' goes by quicker if you're respectful, polite, etc.

Here's a hint if you are pulled over at night (in your cage)

Turn on your dome light, roll down the window(s) and turn off your engine... keep your hands on the steering wheel until instructed to do otherwise---

DO NOT dig for your wallet or go thru the glovebox before the LEO approaches you. To you it may be polite to have your license and stuff ready, but to the LEO the are trained to assume that you are digging for a weapon or hiding something.

Most officers know before they get out of their car whether they are going to cite or not. Some things like cooperation, positive attitude, admitting to what they got stopped for, or being cute, will change an officer's mind from cite to warning. Things like having a poor attitude, arguing, or not admitting to the driving error, can change the warning to a cite.

Too much paperwork.. Ticket, continuation/narrative, booking forms, impound form. The job is 95% paperwork.

Socks... here's your warning: SLOW DOWN, PAY ATTENTION & OBEY THE LAW. If you decide to break the law, don't get caught. If you get caught breaking the law, expect a ticket.

You've been warned. :laughing

I was thinking of putting my palms against the roof of the inside of the car.

Dang there's a list! I was afraid I was left out... :(

I've yet to even talk to a cop in uniform without walking away with a ticket. Always polite, and respectful, even had judges tell me that was in the report, and still send me to the farm. :laughing

You learn to take it with a grain of salt. They are laws for a reason, and if you don't agree with them, it's not the police that can change it, so get over it.

This is a standard you should folllow to get out of a ticket...haha i laughed so hard when i read this one.."from another thread"

Old girlfriend of mine got pulled over by CHP. CHP officer walks up and asks that standard question " do you know why I stopped you?"

She: "Because you were going to ask me to the CHP ball?"

Officer without hesitation: "No, the CHP doesn't have any balls"....
then he realizes what he said. Face got beat read. Handed her information back to her and left before she could even get the car started.

Dont cite ugly drivers, they have it hard enough in life. And the good looking sometimes need a reality check.. :laughing

Quick way to trip out the cops (in a cage): Pull over safely, but quickly. Turn off engine, gently toss keys out of driver window and leave both hands outside and then scream "don't shoot! don't shoot!" (this may work better if you're African-American), they say "mistakes," happen....some cops just expect the worse.

I guess I've been lucky too. I've been pulled over 4 times in the last 6 months. No tickets and the reason for each pull over was rather insignificant:

1) CHP on 101 at 5:30pm - following too closely.

2-4) Santa Clara PD - exhaust didn't look stock. It is. Just the usual check for proper license, insurance, and lack of bling (blinkers, exhaust, race plastic, etc). Polite officers but my bike it almost totally stock so each time it seems to get more rediculous.

But no tickets! As mentioned, attitude has a lot to do with it but try to make the officer comfortable if you are pulled over on your bike.

When pulled over on your bike:
1) When you stop, put both feet on the ground and don't put your kick stand down.
2) Turn the engine off and take your key out of the ignition
3) Keep your hands on the grips

Do this because:
1) If you have to keep your bike upright you have less of a chance to assault the officer or try some silly shit
2) The officer doesn worry (as much) about you fleeing the scene (high speed chase etc)
3) The officers can see that you are not trying to find a weapon and that you are cooperating.

The CHP officer noticed and thanked me for it before we talked about R1's and he gave me an escort back to the freeway :thumbup
