I am not able to search the sink and I apologize if this is a repost but...

I am currently paying an outrageous monthly COBRA fee to my ex employee-San Mateo County in order to have medical insurance. I have heard that there are other "group" insurance plans that small business owners can get but I do not know where to look to find these options.

Is there anyone out there who has a fairly good deal for medical insurance?

Thanks in advance as always.

I started a thread about this awhile ago...I am basically self employed/unemployed so I signed up with Blue Shield for a plan that is just under $60 a month. It has an HSA attached to it, health savings account. You can put up to $2600 a year into it to pay for deductables, otherwise the money grows, like a IRA and you can use it whenever for medical expenses, I think you can even take it out later for retirement purposes ( not sure). Look into it, its a good idea for those that can afford a lil more deductable.

PM if you want the number of a good broker in the Bay area who set up my small companies insurance plan with me.

I'm self employed buy my wifes H&W covers our famly. We looked into it a few years ago. We were told to just buy a policy direct from Kaiser (we have Kaiser). There wasn't any savings buying with a group.

i do not want to go with Kaiser-I know too many employees of that org. who i talk to on a regular basis and i believe that I would not feel as well taken care of in regards to my medical needs if I went there seeking treatment.

I did the same thing, without the bells and whistles. Kaiser is okay, but Branka and I are insured with Blue Cross. Premiums don't bother me much since it's all a tax write off for me.

COBRA is a rip off unless you have a pre-existing condition that would not enable you to go with a competetively priced individual plan. I would take a look at some of the individual plans out there with the large companies. I think you may be pleasantly suprised to find it isn't even close to what you're paying.

yeah Cobra is sooo expensive. Kaiser and Blue Shield are two options. I have had Kaiser for years. They are wonderful for stuff like cancer operations and leg amputations. But you are just a number there, and you won't get any real attention for tricky problems.

In fact I would dump Kaiser tomorrow if I could get coverage elsewhere.
