kimchee discovered that my frame sliders are spinning freely, and said they are probably not tight enough.. how tight should they be? should i not be able to turn them at all? these sliders were on the bike when i bought them.

I cant remember the exact torque...but if they are tight with a ratchet, you might have to shave off a little of the aluminum spacer where it meets the frame.

I have Intuitive sliders and they would spin by hand even when torqued down.

I pulled them off and worked them over, now they are tight.

Cowbean mine turn by hand but the bolts torgued properly. The reason yours brought attention is cuz the left one doesnt spin at all and the right one spins like a freakin top. If you dont know the proper torque setting dont overtighten....but I would recommend you check to see if the bolts loose or not that torqued down and just give it an extra tightening until u can figure out how tight to torque it. Just torque it down as much as u would a spark plug. not too tight until you can get a torque wrench or something.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU OVER TIGHTEN FRAME SLIDERS? I PROBABLY DID...

THANX

Why wouldn't you torque it to the the manufacturers spec for that particular bolt?????

I discovered with the LP carbon frame sliders that they didn't quite interface with part of my frame (01 R1). To be able to torque the bolt to the recommended setting and not have the slider spin like crazy, I had to shave a bit off the slider-- where it meets up against the frame. The frame surface is slightly uneven at that point, so I effectively "notched" the slider so it fit snug and did not have the opporunity to rotate in place.

overtighten, risk of stripping or weakening the bolt threads? I dunno'.

just wanted to say that Motrax sliders of the UK spin around loose and they promote benefit of those as "even wearing" :laughing yeah, like we all want to do that!

I could give you a pretty good :nerd answer, but...nah...let's just say torque specs are specs for good reason. Over/under-tightening can be bad.

Yes, overtightening is bad, m'kay.

Hrm, come to think of it, I also had to use a flat washer/spacer on that LP carbon slider so that I wouldn't overtorque the bolt...
