any suggestions for motorcycle rental places, in bay area
here are a few rules ive always lived by regardless if im driving..or riding.
1. always pay attention to your surroundings. it doesnt matter if its a road you know well, or if its new territory. its common sense to do so.
2. dont tail gate or riding in a way that offers no way out of a bad situation. If you are following a car..assume the idiot might panic brake in front of you. leave yourself enough room to either go around, or to brake yourself. If you feel that the fool in front of you is going too slow...then pass them. There should never really be any reason to tail gate anyone if you are riding.
3. be an aggressive rider. be decisive in your decision making. if you are going to change lanes..check over your shoulders, hit the gas and move into the lane. if you are coming up on two lanes merging, decide if you are going to pass of fall back. once youve decided...execute!
4. check your "6" often. This helps prevent what i like to call " the fucking asshole hogging up the left lane" syndrome. it also helps you become aware of your surrounding. If someone is tailgating you, move over or speed up.
5. Do not be an asshole to the cars/people around you. you will lose in a car vs bike collision. and nothing feels worst than being a prick and crashing. (well maybe crashing in front of some hot chicks ) but all those people you pissed off wont stop to help you, they'll probably laugh at your ass. i know i would.
6. This is probably the most important one. do not ride over your head. If you feel you are going too fast, chances are you probably are. If you feel that you can not handle a situation, back down and take it easy. Its all fun and games untill you get hurt. Then its your family and friends that have to deal with your fuckup, because chances are you'll be on morphine and high as hell in some hospital. and if you arent lucky, they'll be the ones setting up your funeral. funerals are bad, especially yours.
thats about it. as you can see, alot of the rules overlap each other. it all boils down to two things. dont be a jackass and use some common sense when you ride.
Cheers.

Great tips by KXP
Concepts that work for me:
12 second rule: ride anticipating occurrences and situations 12 seconds in front of you.
Friendly riding; people will typically go out of their way to help you be safe.
Practice slow maneuvers; check out www.ridelikeapro.com These DVDs really improved my technique and mastery.
There is nothing better than riding a motorcycle.
