Has anyone else noticed themselves become a better rider by not riding for a while? Or at least not riding a particular style of bike/riding (e.g. road, track, dirt, etc)?

I hadn't ridden for about three months because of the rain and the vertigo problem I posted about a while ago. When I finally went out into the hills again last weekend, I found myself much more confident and smooth than I remember being several months ago.

I've also noticed this trend when I take a break of more than a couple of months from track riding. I'll be nervous about getting back on the track and then find myself turning faster laps with less stress than before.

There's lots of literature about spaced practice (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22spaced+practice%22&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&start=10&sa=N) in academic learning, but I hadn't heard the term used in connection with (motor)sports.
