Hi,
I'm signed up for my first Novice track event with Zoom Zoom and I'm wondering what to do about all the necessary gear. Leathers are really expensive and I don't mind the price for good equipment if it's something that I plan on doing long term. Does anyone know if they rent riding suits at the track? I'll be at Thunderhill on June 15th. How about boots? I have motocross boots but I can't imagine using them on a road course. They're pretty heafty. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

They're cheap compared to a bodycast.
Get the gear and use it.

Hi Alan. I think you mis-understood my question. I wasn't debating the protective value of wearing leathers. It's a no-brainer. I would never consider NOT wearing them on the track. However, it doesn't make sense to spend $1,000.00 on a suit for a single novice day if they can be rented or borrowed. After my track day I'll be better prepared to make a decision on whether or not I want to continue track riding. If I like it and want to continue, I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money. Hope that makes sense. :-)

HahaHA As if you're not going to want to do it as much as possible.
Just messing with you, you actually might come back with a better understanding of what equipment is better to purchase and why, if you talk with people and see what they are using.
Ah hell with it. Just save yourself the hassle. Put a second on the house and buy yourself two track bikes, a bunch of spares, an enclosed trailer, and two custom suits.

www.newenough.com has a kick arse sale on Teknic suits right now. I always check there before I buy anything.

Wow! $325.00 for a 1-piece Teknic suit. That's really good. I've also been doing some shopping and found Cycle Gear's 1-piece leather riding suit (last years model) is selling for $299.00. And just by chance, they were having a 10% off sale on everything in the store. So, for $270.00 (the price of a track day at Infineon) I took the plunge. At that price I could probably unload them on eBay if I decide not to continue on the track (which probably won't happen) and not take too bad a hit. :-) Thanks for the input!!!

Go to a place like cycle gear, and try on as many different brands as you can. Not all will have the same feel or fittament. Shop around, as there are always used ones for sale on ebay, and craigslist. Ask the people who are putting on the school, and I bet they would know who rents the leathers for the day.
I will be taking a school like you later on this summer. Have fun!!!
