how long did it take for them to start on your background, those who have been through the process?

Congrats!:) When I went thru, it took about 4 months for everything. I have heard that it can take 6 and 8 months, depending on the size of the Dept. Good Luck!!

Nice job on the first baby step in a long journey. Be prepared for delays and a lot of waiting. It is a long process to get someone hired, even on a fast track.

Sac city took about six months, citrus hieghts about four.... hope you are comfortable with polygraphs lol....

SPIRIT OF THE LAW, NOT LETTER OF THE LAW PLEASE!

Well, one agency started the background about a month after I passed the test. Another agency I don't believe has even started the background process, and I passed their test like 4 months ago. If I were you, I would not be in a rush.

I didn't think the polygraph was that bad. Just start yourself on a beta blocker regime. K, that was so just a joke....

Are you a lateral, or trainee application?

My understanding is VERY few people get trainee positions. Most people have to pay their own way through the academy, with Sac SO.

Good luck. They need people in a bad way, but they can still be picky.

Of course, with the contract negotiations underway, and Sac County trying to take away safety retirement for new hires, and reduce the Kaiser tie to 80%, the SO is gonna' have a little trouble recruiting if those go thru (although rumor is SCDSA will probably hold out against it).

I'd call the department and double check your scores. Both my roommate and I tested for Sac Sheriff last year, and for me, this is what happen:

1st Letter: Congrads you passed, you are ranked #4

2nd Letter: After reviewing your score, you do not meet the qualifications for Deputy Sheriff.

3rd Letter: Congrads, you sucessfully passed your oral board. :wtf

Problem was, I never took an oral board. My roommate letters ranked him the same as me, and then a year after he applied he got a letter saying he passed his oral board.:laughing

WTF Sac Sheriff, get your $hit together.:laughing

+1 I'm the roommate. I did eventually get a background packet with instructions to bring it to the physical agilities test that was 1 or 2 weeks away. I just skipped it.

Please clear something up for the layman. You scored 85% and were ranked 3rd. How many people took the test and what is minimum to pass? 3rd place with only a mid B sounds doesn't sound that impressive.

No disrespect.......just a honest question.

Sac Sheriff takes your T-Score, and then converts it into their score. I have no idea how they get those scores, or what the high score is.:confused

From the back of the notice;
"Rank is based on the final score. A rank is a group of people who receive the same score. There can be one person in a rank or many, depending on how many people have the same score. People who have the highest score are grouped in Rank 1, and so on."

so there could have been two people who scored higher than I did, and they're in ranks 1 and 2, and everybody else is below me, or there could be 100 people in each rank. doesn't tell you. and I have no idea how many people tested. i'd guess a few hundred.

Be prepared for a lengthy wait. Seeing that you are in the third rank. Everyone in rank 1 or 2 will be offered a position before you. You might have better luck paying yourself through the academy and then getting hired as an "on call." Sac Sheriff likes to hire from their on calls. You could be an on call for a few months to a few years. The pay is better as an on call; however, you don't get the benefits.

Good luck!

i got another letter today, stating my t-score which was 63.8

lol, organizing all my paperwork I found my score from sac pd awhile back; 69.6.

now I got a letter from Santa Cruz Sheriff saying to come down to take their written exam. I should be able to use one of these scores, right? Is it the last one I got, or the best one I got? (not that it really matters, since the highest I've seen for passing has been 50). I'd much rather just have one of these count than waste my gas driving down to SC and back, and taking another boring test

I am pretty sure you can use your previous POST score if it was within 6 months.
