Stupid question ahead. I have my MSF class this weekend and I'm making sure that I have everything in order. Question is: I currently own the alpinestars S-MX3 gloves. Are these suitable for the MSF class? Everything else that I have is good to go, I just had a question on the gloves.
Thanks!

are they leather? as long as they're full fingered, leather gloves you can wear them. Heck you could wear gardening or fasion gloves as long as they fit the above description (this is according to what my MSF instructor's told me)

I can't imagin anything A* wouldn't be. They are dedicated motorcycle gloves, right? As far as I know MSF just requires "gloves." Any leather type glove would work no doubt.

Newbiegrl...You'll be fine with those gloves. I have the same pair, too. Good luck with your MSF class this weekend. Hope to join you on some rides, soon :)

Thanks all. I can't wait to get my M1, then I will be joining in on the rides, I hope that you all will let me!

If you're taking the course at MVLA, then they need to be 100% leather. If there is any textile on them, we will invite you to pick a pair of leather gardening gloves out of our box of loaners.

I'm jealous.. I still have three weeks til I take my class!

Where's MVLA? I'm taking the course at Leigh High.......

MVLA is Mountain View - Los Altos.

You're taking it at what's considered the San Jose location.

Yeah!...I friend lives right behind Leigh High School...so if you see a dude with a silver helmet and a red SV650 cruise by...wave!! Good luck in your class and have fun.

I'm going to be taking the MSF in the SF from Bay Area Motorcycle Training, Inc. I was wondering if any knows if my old football gloves would work. They full fingered, no holes, almost complete leather; just some stretch points inside the thumb. They have velcrow around the wrist to keep them from slipping off.

According to BAMT, it looks like they will meet thier requirements:

Full-fingered gloves, preferably leather, but at least with leather palms.
The gloves should close around your wrist (zipper, elastic, velcro, etc.). Open back gloves are not allowed. Cut finger gloves are not acceptable.

Any feed back would be great. Thanks and have a nice day.

You'll be fine with those gloves over there, I used the A* SMX air-carbon there, couldn't get used to my GP techs in time so just used my older air-carbon.

I think with leigh, it's full finger w/ leather on the palms, and bring like 3-4 bottles of water, you'll need it when you do the riding part of the class there, you'll sweat a lot, not a lot of shade where you do the riding in the parking lot.

Good luck and hope you have fun, learn a few things, and pass.

+1, especially on the water, you will definitley need it! Good luck with your course and have fun! :)

These will work just fine

I'm sure this was meant in humor, but I still want to clear it up.

No, these gloves will not work. The gloves used for class must have full fingers.

As for footwear, over the ankle, meaning boot?

Something sturdy. A boot, a leather shoe, leather hightops...etc.

for boots, I found some leather, non-skid, oil-resistant boots at Payless for $40. And they go over the ankle bone. I'm presuming they should be sufficient for the MSF course.
