If you’re not tired of hearing it yet……Here’s another track excursion of a track n00b. :teeth…

I’m going to try and keep this one a little shorter.

First I want to thank www.pacifictracktime.com for another great outing.

These folks run a fantastic organization, I find them empathetic and more importantly. FUN!!!!

Overall it was a great day.

Session one B group: Pretty much picked up where I left off trying to be smooth and consistent on the race line.

Session two B group: Picking up speed starting to consistently hit my marks.

Session three B group: Okay now I’m moving…:laughing ( I can here you folks laughing already )
-Lap 1 starting to really feel a groove.
-Lap 2 utilizing my newfound corner speed (courtesy of Mike Solis) to catch some riders.
-Lap 3 “Can’t Gap Me” :teeth, Yeah Right :rolleyes

Lap3 Session 3, I was really in the groove or so I thought. Hitting my marks at better speed. Simply I was transitioning from t5 to t5a, lost traction and BOOM, POW, WACKO…………..I was sliding down 5a.

So I’m on my ass, trying to get my bearings. HOLY SHIT THERE is a big ass Kawasaki, it was bright it was green and it was scary.

In short I pitched the bike t5, but thanks to Andy Carman, Jason with PTT, Silversix, Antarius, some Aussie guy, and R1cobra they unfucked it. :teeth ( P.S. Yo SVETA thanks for the ibuprofen it got me through the day :thumbup )

They had me out on the track for the session after lunch. Thanks folks. Most importantly I have no idea what possessed me to try and make up time on that turn, how many times have I heard the warning at this point? DUH…..

Asked to drop down to C group and hesitantly the staff let me which was great. :thumbup.

The rest of the day I spent doing about 3 laps in C group per session simply because I couldn’t get my body off the bike.

Aftermath.

Fractured Collarbone,
Fractured Shoulder,
Bruised hip but not so bad.

I make it sound bad huh?

Being too dumb to quit, and having great folks help me out, was worth every penny.

P.S.,

Yes yesterday evening Doc wanted to put me in a cast. I told him NO WAY I hope to do a trackday in October.
:teeth

Good to hear your wife is making sure you keep yourself in check, but i know what you mean, i have a tendecy to believe i can cure myself better than a doctor could. If you are good for October, i might see you on the track (im going on 7th and 30th :teeth)

Jason darling, did you really finish the day with broken bones? That seems inadvisable to me. If for some reason you fell again, that could really fuck you up. But I guess you didn't know anything was fractured, figured you were just bruised up and needed to get back on the bike... *sigh* Boys will be boys...

Glad you're okay though. :)

Hmm.... i think i know now why Z^2 will not allow a fallen rider to get back on the track. Krazy has a point... good thing you didn't make it worst.

Then again, i would refuse to believe i have a broken bone :teeth

But more importantly I was asked 4thousand times if I was okay. I was :thumbup. I didn't know I was THAT banged up till I got home.

Fascinating. My friend Melissa just wrecked over the weekend, grabbed a handful of brake and went down around 20-30mph, and thought she'd simply dislocated her shoulder. Lo and behold, it was actually fractured in four places. She's having pins and plates put in as we speak.

Aren't people just amazing? We take a licking and keep on ticking...I kinda dig it! :laughing

exactly why even show up to the game if you aren't going to play? :laughing

danc79

Must be the adrenaline rush, as well as the way the body reacts to injury. Usually you wont notice how badly hurt you are until you rest, and then try to move...

Sorry to hear about your friend :(

I heartily concur. However, the above statement could be made by a rider on an R1 wearing shorts and flip flops, or an opponent of helmet laws. I'm all for being savage, but I still want to take certain elements of precaution. But I can totally see how you may have just thought you'd torn a ligament or sprained or strained something. Who knows, I might have done the same thing. :grin

glad to help out ABN. it was coincidental, i was just walking back from unfucking another bike and happened to see your dilemma. i'm glad we were able to get you back on track. that was quite the fix it trick, eh ? damn i do good work. ha. i guess i caught up with you about a session too late. next time catch up to me earlier in the day and we'll try to fix the rider next time instead of the bike.

and you're lucky i didn't know you were busted up....i would have fixed that too...i'm checked out on pinning and plating too. a utility knife, a coors can, a couple of wood screws, and some superglue and you'd be as good as new.

i had a great trackday. instructed some riders, fixed some bikes, rode lots of laps and ripped off some decent wheelies down the straight. it felt so good to be back at a PTT day. the A group was actually FAST. not just the fact that 4 of the top 10 afm'ers were riding, but the absence of C riders in the A group was a nice change. in fact, all the groups had very compatible speeds, with the exception of a couple of sandbaggers in the C group. i guess they were enjoying owning the track. i solved that for them by owning it instead. traffic was never a problem, and i think the track was only red flagged once.

i didn't get all the details, but it seems that a rider crashed, and then just (apparantly) didn't feel like getting up. i guess he was just kicking back looking up at the blue sky or something until someone stopped to chat him up, but there was nothing wrong with him. WTF ? oh well, a first crash can be a bit disorienting. but that's a pretty funny story if true. i mean, how long do you lay there telling yourself it must have been a bad dream and you'll wake up soon ?

Geez, man, you are a trooper, for sure!

Wow.

I am impressed.

OK, here it is: next teim, observe ME crashing. I got it mastered to a 't' by now.
What you have to do is:
1. BOUNCE
2. BOUNCE
3. BOUNCE
4. BOUNCE
5. BOUNCE
6. ROLL
7.SLIIIIIIIIDEEEEE
8. STOP
9. Get up, open your visor, spit on the ground, kick your bike
10. Wave to a corner worker and ask her "How YOU doin'???" :teeth

No, seriously, I am sorry to hear that. Broken bones suck. Start drinking milk, yougurt and taking calcium supplements with food PRONTO.

Another thing - multi-vitamins. I am NOT kidding. Trust me, with all my crashes I know a thing or two about healing. Just do it.

Heal fast, brother, I want to see you up and riding in October? Are you going to Thill again? I am - Sept. 18-19 and October 6. What are your dates?

Ha-ha, I do. I usually attempt to lay down on my back 'cause I get dizzy from spinning and rolling. When the Earth stops moving, then I get up and start frantically looking around for a closest corner worker to give him/her thumbsup. Then you do a small "victory" dance (just wiggle your ass a bit) and get that very ass as far as possible away from the track and the bike.....unless, of course, you are like me and have a burning desire to go and kick the crap out of it first.

Oh no, I am not blaming the bike. It's clearly the rider that deserves some kicking! But since the kicking must be done no matter what, and I can't reach my own ass, and you are not volunteering, the poor bike gets it.

Damn, Steve, you are such a nice guy, it's really disarming. You are probably the only person on Earth I don't not feel like getting into an argument with! :) You should be made a head of United Nations, or Peace Corps. :thumbup

Where do they make men like you....and why don't they make more of them?

Hey ABN,

I think I was the "Aussie Guy" who helped out repair your gearshift (I am actually a Brit but it is a common mistake), etc. Sorry to hear your injuries were worse than suspected and you did well to get back out and ride with them. Only glad to help get a fellow rider back on track and hope to see you out there again sometime soon.
