So my friend and I were having a discussion regarding street racing tickets and such and he told me that a friend of his got a ticket based on a video someone posted on a car forum.

Apparently his friend was pulled over and ticketed for speeding, he did the needful and cooperated, and for some reason or another also gave the police officer his email address (this is the part of the story I was calling b.s. on, cuz why would you give a cop your email address and why would they need it ??) anyhow, I guess the officer was on the net and found some car website and they had videos of street racing. As he's watching, he recognizes one of the vehicles as my buddy's friend, takes down the license plate info, finds out its him and somehow issues a ticket.

His friend gets the ticket, is pissed cuz he doesnt remember ever being in the area, so he contests it and loses. Loses based on the fact that they did a run on the road that he apparently was racing on, timed it at the speed limit and then timed the same distance in the video and concluded he was doin well over 100mph.

So my question is this. Is that even something that could happen ?? Can you issue a ticket for something seen on the net ? I would think you couldnt because of the ability to doctor up videos and make it not accurate, plus there isnt really a way of knowing who was behind the wheel.

I was calling b.s. but said I'd post and ask.

Thanks in advance !!! :teeth

Of course it is BS, for the simple fact that they cannot verify the speed of the car. Those videos that the racer kids put up are intentionally "sped up" so it looks like they are driving faster than they are. It is easy to do in any editing software. That alone would nullify it as evidence, unless they saw the town square clock in the back ground at the beginning and end of the race but that is foolish.

I figured so much, but he was very adimant about it, stating that he got ticketed, fought it and lost, :blah :blah :blah

I think his friend might be leaving something out. THANKS !!

In this particular case it looks tough to get a speeding conviction, but in others, I can't see any reason you couldn't get moving violations.

I remember watching one, where the rider passed over the DSY numerous times, ran a stop sign, and was clearly speeding. He said it was him, and told us where it was.

Why couldn't he be prosecuted for reckless (CVC 23103)? It's basically putting evidence of your violations out there for the world to see.
