I hear rumor that Hollister Hills is opening 500 acres of new trails on Oct. 1st. Is there any truth to that rumor? does anyone have any info on this?

HH has had this land ready to go ( trails cut & marked ) for the last three years ( at least ). They have been fighting in court with tree huggers and dumb neighbors, but I understand they have won the battles. From what a ranger buddy has told me, they are pretty close ... but I haven't heard anything about October 1st. It would be great though if the opened more on that date being I will be able to ride my stupid red sticker :cry bike on more land out there!

On August 6th, a park representative was walking around the lot by the vintage track and she talked with us for a while about the new addition. She told us 1500 acres and 18 miles of trails, mostly blue level and higher. They are accessed off Rancho Road. She said in the fall they will start taking groups of riders on tours of the new area (you have to sign up for it), but it won't open to the general public until later (towards the end of the year). She explained the details of the legal battles, and barring some new offensive by the anti-OHV groups, they are cleared to open.

Hello,

I just registered on Barf but I do have some input on this. I spoke to the regular dark haired girl at the gate on Saturday. She told me two more years if ever before the trails were opened. Something about the effects on Salamander mating. I'm not holding my breath on the subject. I also asked if the bike wash station would be back and the answer was no. I think she also talked me into the year pass for $50. I have 4 receipts hanging on my winshield for the last month alone. That's not including the summer mid week freebies. Sounds like a deal.
