Sup guys. I've decided since Im too poor to afford 17's right now I'm going to run my KXF sportsman for a while. I want to try and have it ready for the hooligans trackday next month. So my question is.....
What are the best sportsman tires? The Avon gripsters or the Dastanzias? Are there other tires I should be considering?
thanks!

Well, on the rear just get a really big set of tire irons and stretch a 17" to fit. Its only an inch.
I bought a Avon venom 18" for the rear of a bike once and it hooked up pretty well. I just checked their site and dont see the 160 listed anymore but it is pretty much a street tire so if you can find one id recommend it for SM use. Its a bit firm, but your choices are a tad limited. and it was narrow for a 160, i had it on a 4" rim and it fit perfectly.
for the front, i dunno about that.
EDIT
Check this, AM23; 130/70/18, suggested rim size 3.5"

I like the Distanzias. Pretty good for the street. Suck in the wet tho.

OK, the REAL set up on the rear is a Maxxis FLAT TRACK TIRE, along with any number of decent fronts, my fav being the Gripster.
A&A sells them in Redwood City.
Just checked in the basement and found 2 used ones, but they are 19' that fit YZF and CRF RIMS. So call A&A to see if they come in 18' sized rears.

Call A&A and ask about the Dunlop K180 flat track tire. They have an 18" rear that I loved on my old XR. They also have a 21" front but I never tried it. The K180 is a nice sticky compound that always warmed up really quickly. And they seem to last forever.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Looks like A & A shows the dunlop in an 18" but the maxxis are only 19's. I'll have to give em a call and see what the prices are like.

my buddy used this on his 150 and they stuck in the rain and dry but your bike will have more power and speed. Good price though and they come in your sizes

Ok, dont know what I was thinking when I started this thread but I do have a 19" rim on the rear. So I'm thinking the Maxxis flat track tire for the rear and the gripster on the front.
Is the DTR-1 the tire I should be ordering? And what size are you guys normally running on the rear? The maxxis sizing is a little weird. My stock dirt tire is a 100-90-19 if that helps.
Maxxis DTR-1
Part # Description Size
01-0025 CD 3 Front 27.0 x 7.0 x 19
01-0026 CD 5 Front 27.0 x 7.0 x 19
01-0027 CD 3 Rear 27.5 x 7.5 x 19
01-0028 CD 5 Rear 27.5 x 7.5 x 19
01-0029 CD 10 Front 27.0 x 7.0 x 19
01-0030 CD 10 Rear 27.5 x 7.5 x 19
thanks!

Yeah I saw on the Maxxis website that is the code for the medium compound so I'm gonna go with that one and see how I like it. Thanks for your help!
