View Full Version : "city" ticket...pulling my leg?

So, I got a ticket the other day for failing to stop completely at a stop sign. To be honest, it is my fault. I am 99.9 percent of the time a conservative driver...however, I was in a rush so I pulled up to the stop sign, hit the brakes hard (to a near stop), and then kept going.

The moto that pulled me over told me the ticket he issued me is a "city violation" and will not be reported to DMV or insurance, and that no points will be issued. Honestly, I have my doubts about this. I remember hearing a story of someone who was given a similar line and ended up having his insurance rates double.

I admit I should have stopped completely; I have no issues with giving the city a generous ticket donation. However, if the officer was giving me a lie to my face, and I'm going to be issued points for this, I'll be just a little bit ticked. No accidents, no tickets in my entire driving history....it'll be ruined!

So...officers...does such a thing exist?

I know my father claimed that he was pulled over on an Army base for speeding and got a high dollar ticket, but it didn't end up on his record, or something like that. I don't remember the exact details, but his insurance didn't go up at all.

I don't see any CVC codes on my ticket...under violation 1 it says 8-2.4 A0-M...

Yep...you were cited for a Municipal Code violation that is the equivalent of a CVC statute. SAme basic function, except it doesn't get reported to the DMV.

The Muni code violation fees go to the city, correct?

Sounds like the officer did you a favor.

Yeah, sounds like it. I guess being polite by nature helps; like I said earlier I don't mind giving the city a "donation" at all...I just don't want the points, and wanted to double check on that.

This was in Alameda.

Oh, and p.s. officer who issued me the ticket if you're on here:

Thanks for a reasonable ticket, I appreciate the break on points but understand the necessity of enforcement...even though I did see you camped out there all day :laughing

If its a muni code violation the the fees go to the issuing city. I hate to say it but it is a chickens%$t way to generate funds. I worked at an agency in the central valley that pushed this HARD. Its one of the main reasons I am no longer there. When you are cited for a CVC violation most of the funds go to the state and only a small portion to the issuing entity. In my humble opinion traffic cites should not be used as a revenue generator. Citations should be a reminder to the person cited to be more careful. The money seen from it is an afterthought.

Oddly enough, "Alameda" is actually a Spanish word that means chickens%$t way to generate funds.
