View Full Version : Modem reports no dialtone

Is it a shared line with your desk phone? Pick up the phone... is it stuttering, indicating voicemail? Most modems won't dial through that.
Either clear your voicemail or pick up your desk phone just before trying to dial with the modem. This should get you past the stutter-tone.

Or you can set your modem to not check for a dial tone before dialing.

Just being stupid. And yes, I'm still on dial-up until this weekend when I'll be installing my DSL modem.:D

i'm still on dailup cause they don't offer any high speed access other than ISDN here. :(:troy :kicknuts :cry :finger

Sorry to hear that you have no DSL available, Mstingray...I feel your pain..
and was once in the same boat....
..but...
DSL just became available in my neighborhood!!!
Ordered yesterday, scheduled service start, May 10!!!

BTW, I'll keep you guys posted on how PacBell does as far as
customer service goes...if you're interested...
