Calling all the BARF Dirt riders!

The Wild Piglet is a Family Enduro. Even if it is a race with all the same timekeeping rules associated to a regular enduro, it is easier and most people participate mainly for fun. My wife and I participated to 2 Family enduros in 2002 after riding dirt bikes for less than a year and we can't wait for the next one :teeth :teeth

Street-only riders, you don't know what you're missing ;)

The Wild Piglet is March 8 in Clear Creek. So who is coming? Here is the flyer. Sign up now! You've got to represent BARF!!!

Get one, you'll love it! Since I have a dirt bike, I can't decide which is more fun. Dirt riding or trackdays? So I decided to do both :teeth ;)

awww hell. All I need is another forum to get hooked to!:laughing

yes, I registered.

But explain this to me. They are talking about the kids being on the same course as the adults?? Which classes would be the same course??

I know at the last on ethey did at Prairie City, the kids just did loops through the 2 mini-tracks?

Surely they wouldn't put the peewees on the same course??

But would they put the 10-12 year olds on the same course as the adults??

JoeBar

Farmer John will probably explain this much better than I will, I have only ridden 1 (one) Family Enduro so far... ;)

An Enduro is not a race like a Hare Scramble where you try to go as fast as possible to cover the maximum distance in a given time. In this Enduro you ride 2 loops (60 miles total) and there are checkpoints. The goal is to pass the checkpoints right in time (not late, but not early) or you get penalty points. The fun part is that you don't know where the checkpoints will be and that you get more penalty points for being early than late ;)

Riders start by groups of 4 riders (Mom, Dad, kids ;)) every minute. It is not a big start with 200 riders at the same time like Hare Scrambles! There is no rule that forces you to do the timekeeping. A lot of people just do that to have fun with the family and do not even have odometer/watch. They just follow the arrows ;)

The Wild Piglet is a Family Enduro, the Wild Boar is an Enduro. I am doing the Family Enduro since I race with Jennifer ;) :p

A family enduro course is pretty easy. It is mostly easy trails connected by dirt road sections. The milage (63 miles) is what will be the killer in the end. This is one long loop you do not ride the same trails over & over. There is one gas/lunch stop at the mid point.

It's funny I have seen 20 somthing men quite a family enduro because it was too hard & watched a 6 year old kid finish the same darn course. Her dad was probably more stoked than she was. :teeth

No I don't. I am trying to get Mick to send his registration before Friday and have him request to be in our minute... We want to practice together the new techniques that we learned during Kali's timekeeping clinic last Saturday ;)

By the way, what's with the L and T? Usually there are 4 riders per minute and the letter are A to D, isn't it? :confused

Most clubs do not go alpha. TMC tries to use letters that are easy to make with electrical tape. W also try to steer away from letters that resemble each other. Imagine what it would be like to score an emergency check if we used C, D, O, & Q.

Kevin and I are in! We are signing up the day of or night before since I wasn't sure if we would make it (I was scheduled to work). We have so much to do though, my 200 still is out of commission and it's the only bike that has an odometer. Kevin's is now fixed from his 'accident' last weekend. I am picking up a Pampera 280 tomorrow as a fun/practice bike, but I'm not sure if I want to ride it it's first time out in an enduro!

We WILL be there and riding though!! I will prevail this year.

Our first Piglet wasn't too bad. Jennifer crashed a couple of times but nothing major! We didn't do very well with timekeeping though. We were not ready and did not have the computers setup. We got there less than an hour before the start. We had to unload the bikes, gear up, sign up, get sound tested... after all that, it was time to ride! My computer was half setup so was Jennifer's and Mick's. We ended up being 4 mins early at one of the checkpoints. That is bad. That is 17 points. That hurts! But we had fun and the trails were challenging but not impossible.

Another great day on the dirt :thumbup

The results (http://www.ama-d36.org/Results/2003FamEndR01Results.html) are out. Jennifer finished 10th in "C Women" and I finished 17th in "C Vet". No trophy for us yet :( ;)
Maybe next year...

Next year?? What about the Sawmill, and the Training Wheels, and the 49er......

I thought you were going to race them all this year now that you have that cheater bike?

No trophies for us either. Poor Kevin has yet to officially even finish since they forgot to write down his final check in the Piglet! He ended up with a DNF even though he zero'd the last check and should have been 11th.

I meant next year for a trophy at the Piglet. We are going to race the Training Wheels. I love the Training Wheels!

Sorry to hear that Kevin didn't get his final check! Didn't he keep the copy of the check thingy that you put on the front fender? Is the final check on it?

I will be at the Phantom HS Sunday if it's not raining cats and dogs :teeth ;)

Pierre,
They never wrote it on his fender, and he didn't bother to pay attention! Oh well, he was pretty far back anyway, I just thought it was funny.

I am a member of CERA so I will be working the training wheels, not riding. I will get to say hello to everyone at my check though :) I would like to ride, but I am also proud to be a member of the club that puts on such a fine family enduro, I hope you enjoy it as much this year.

We are riding on Sunday too, probably at Hollister, but not racing. We decided to spend the $$ on the Dave Wood class instead, plus I am going to try out my Pampera for the first time! If we go to Hollister we'll try to get up to the upper ranch during your races to cheer you on and take some pics. Good luck!

JoeBar

Mick will race in the morning with the B boys. I will race at 1:00 PM with the C class :teeth I am going to Dave Wood's class as well. It should be fun! Jennifer will come to Hollister to watch the race and support her hubby! She decided to give her knee a break!

Congrats and thank you for being part of CERA. We are so lucky to have all these great clubs and volunteers that put together fun events such as the Piglet or the Training Wheels!!!
