how does one rip audio from dvd's?

trying to rip the audio from a professor's lecture dvd so that i can listen to it in the car on my ipod, but thus far no luck with any programs i've tried. i'm not even sure if i have the right ones...

any idears?

What are the files names, or file types?
If there are folders, what are their names?

if you browse the files with your comp and see a VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS folder, you need to find a DVD ripping utility, not a music ripping utility.

it's for a PC and i do see an AUDIO and VIDEO TS.

there's more to BARF than the sink ;)

if your on a mac you can use hand break to rip the dvd, then use garage band to rip the audio.
