So cruising unmarked on a Bay Area freeway when a dude decides to fly by me. 75 in a 55. (We don't do traffic stops unless necessary we leave that work to the state and muni guys) But said driver was doing some other cager asshat moves.

So we hit the wig wags and light him up. Does he stop? Nope, kicks it up to 95. We finally get beside him and and get him to pull over.

Me: So any reason why you were doing 75 in a 55 and then when we light you up you start doing 95.

Driver: I thought you wanted to race and that's why you were highbeaming me.

Me::wtf :laughing :wow :cry

Driver was piss drunk, failed all sobriety tests, blew a 1.4.

Happy Holidays fellow LEOs

Did you read the story about the EBRPD det that was in a unmarked Impala and atempted a traffic stop not too long ago.
The driver wouldnt stop, called CHP and CHP told him "we dont have that kind of car...dont stop." At least thats what the guy told the paper.

I would think CHP would dispatch a car or two to figure out what heck is going on :wtf.

I'd also think the Detective would call for a marked unit (or CHP if it was on the fwy) to assist.

Yeah, if I was lit up by an unmarked, I would proceed (at a safe and sane speed) to the nearest cop shop or at least a gas station with good video cameras.

You have to have a marked unit for traffic enforcement.

You also (correct me if I'm wrong here LEOs) have to have a (distinctively) marked car to call it a failure to yield/pursuit for 2800cvc.

Can an unmarked car pull you over- Yes. Can you be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle? Yes.

However, most folks in unmarked cars have WAY better things to do than traffic- unless you are doing something stupid in public.

Thanks Dragon. I am not one to put out extra info on a public forum especially on a pending deuce. I know several agencies who listen to our channel, they knew what was going on.

I tell my wife not to pull over for an unmarked. I tell her to call 911 and she can find out if the pullover is legit. (Luckily she has never been pulled over)

And yes I have other things to do besides make traffic stops. But I don't play when it comes to drunk drivers. Innocent lives can be ruined because of one fucktards choice to get behind the wheel or handlbars.

Pffft. I was doing 95-100 most of 101 on the way to work this morning.................so was everyone else. Yeah, the CHP had a truck pulled over, but it was normal predawn traffic flow. CHP is pretty much used to it and doesn't bother enforcement of speed laws until after 7:00am or so. This has been my experience. Case in point.

6:30am -- Just a little under 100mph, no problems and LEO's don't seem to mind.

7:30am -- Same stretch of road, I got ticketed for 73 in a 55.

Dear Sir,

The folks on graveyard shift are tied up handling the crap for day shift because it's shift change. They have had a long night and are waiting to get home to a cold one.

Not to be a smartass (which means I will be...) but blowing a 1.4 and being able to drive (let alone live) is impressive. That reading on an Intoxilyzer would mean that 140% of his blood was alcohol as opposed to .14. Just had to get in there on this one. I am guessing that "one of my peeps" means an LEO. If that is the case, I applaude your disregard for professional courtesy. You did that fellow borther a favor as far as I am concerned. With the money most LEO's make nowadays, a DUI vs. a cab or bus is just irresponsible.

With the money most LEO's make nowadays, a DUI vs. a cab or bus is just irresponsible. the number generally given is the percent. for example, blowing a .08 means that .0008 of your blood is alcohol. a .14 means .0014 of your blood is alcohol. a 1.4 would mean that .0140 of your blood is alcohol, so while it is possible the person is almost certainly dead by then.

"one of my peeps" = Filipino people

I know if it was another LEO some officers would call a cab or some other form of transport for the intoxicated officer. Of course the intoxicated officer would have to own up to his superiors in the morning about why he was driving intoxicated. Then suffer the consequences.

Typically, department policy will decide whether or not an unmarked unit can participate in a pursuit. Usually, if it's an unmarked primary car, as soon as a marked unit joins, the marked unit assumes primary.

Don't be so sure about that. That's the quickest way to end up in the newspaper and have a lot of explaining to do.

I expect no leniency if in that situation.
