View Full Version : First Crash is a High-Side

So it finally happened...

My first crash was on the Snake (Mullhulland Dr.) on my budies frankensteined SV650S. I just couldn't pull off the turn or get in possition to drive it around the bend and just did a bunch of decelleration before sliding into the dirt and then just brought it up to fast and high-sided it. :(

Bike:
Broken throttle housing, throttle tube, marred tank, possibly messed up banjo bolt on brake master cylinder, scratched the can a litte more...

Body:
I managed to injure only my big toes as they slammed intothe front of my boots after I hit the ground running. No damage to any of my gear. Just a serious kick in my embarassment gland.

Learned:
Don't ride even close to your normal speed on a unfamiliar bike, that is not yours, no matter how familiar the roads are.
If you are going to start a powerslide in the dirt wait till the bike slows down alot before righting it back up.

What wasn't good:
I just couldn't get the bike to go where I wanted to in a way I could control, and in a comfortable manner , with the body/bike possition. Saw flash of theoownwer going down on the track on the same bike because of the front washing out.

Take care, ride smart, and Happy New Years.

That's what the problem was, I just couldn't see my way through the turn. : (

^so you look through the wall, bush, car, or hillside that is blocking where you would ideally look.

Dmk510f4i: No I am talking about the more existential version of the word see. Like I couldn't see myself in Jessica Beil's pants.

embarassment gland? That's great.... I just made this up...

When the embarassment gland secretes it's embarassment juices, thoes juices mingle and perculate with the self preservation and intuition glans. :bs

It creates a condition, commonly called... experience.

You know the real reason for us all wearing full face helmets don't you?

So nobody knows who we are, when we wreck.

Except the owner of the bike your riding.. :laughing

Probably the SV650S drives differently than your F4.

Regarding you yamaha.. I'd go through it with an OHM meter myself... Try changing the plugs. I bet they're fouled even if they don't look it. You'd be suprised... That sucks though.. (I browsed so I probably don't have the whole story but this is Barf, we're obligated to offer useless opnions)

GSXR 750 sounds like fun, I hear the 04's are nice.

Do they come in yellow?

that didn't sound like a typical acceleration "high side", that was a low high side, where you are slowing down don't know exactly how to park it and it goes over the top on you,

You got it, that't why I survived without a scratch, and didn't get tossed down the cliff! :P
