Moto grant

So here is the situation:

My department wants to start the motor divison back up. There have not been any motors in my department for several years due to funding issues. There is a definate need for a motor in this city and the thought is it will also help with the retention of officers.

My SGT knows I ride and he told the chief at a staff meeting. . . so now I am incharge of filing a grant with OTS (Office of Traffic Safety) in an attempt to get a motor.

My question:

Has any LEO gone through this process??

Any sugestions or tips that will give me a better chance of getting this grant??

If any of you have a copy of previously submitted grant to get me on the right track. . .I would be extreemly grateful.

If you are looking at an 07-08 grant (Oct. 1, 07 to Sep. 30, 08) you will need to have it completed by Jan. 31st. All of the info is online at the OTS website. The grants are now soooo much easier to write than in the past. Its basically a fill in the blank format. Do you think you can get this done in three weeks? The hardest part is gathering stats for the previous three years. If you haven't had a traffic unit compiling the data monthly it can be a bit tedious gathering the info. OTS will pay for bikes and now they are actually paying for straight time personnel. In the past it was only OT hours. Shoot me a PM and I can give you more info.

sliverSVS Thanks for the reply, I know I can get it done and thankfully the admin does keep a very detailed record of all necessary stats. I looked alittle harder at the OTS website and found the "grants made easy" link. . . .I think I can make this work for me. If I get stuck in the next week I will let ya know. I should know better then to start this stuff at 3 am :zzz
