South Bay Group Ride: Sunday, January 14th

Hi, so I was thinking of doing a little ride this Sunday (weather permitting) and I wanted to see if anyone wanted to join me. According to weather.com it's suppose to be nice that day.

Date: Sunday, January 14th
Meeting place: Santana Row Starbucks
Meeting time: 10:00 AM
Pace: This will be a B pace but all levels are welcome. We'll break out into groups if we have a lot of people riding
Route: Santana Row Starbucks --> Hwy 9 --> Hwy 35 --> Alice's --> Hwy 84 --> Hwy 1 --> Pescadero --> Hwy 84 --> Alice's --> Hwy 35 --> 4-corners --> Backside of Hwy 9 --> Front side of Hwy 9 --> and we're done
Ride duration: 10 AM - 1 PM

Given the current predictions, it's looking like that warning will be extended to Sunday and possibly Monday as well.

I am going to holf off the sc hills till the snow, or spring comes in..

at least when it snows you expect it.. the ice looks more like sand and frost instead of black ice.

Damn that sucks, hope everyone is ok..who and why went down?You are right Larry, best to save ourselves when the freeze and frost disappear..Thanks for the info on the road conditions...Where was the ice atV? HWY 9? LOoks like I won't ride till it is at least 45 degrees in the morning..

It was nice meeting everybody today. Good group, and seemed like a good course, unfortunately it was too cold today. Sucks that ppl went down as a result. However, I would like to ride again when the road conditions improve.

the ice was on 35 1st right hand turn after the firestation.. at least that was where the accident was.. however there were ice spots all along 35 and alices.. I wanted to go down 84 since we were there.. but my better judgement was not to, since there are alot of shaded spots..

Did you ride at all steve?

I might pratice mt hammi.. SC hills.. Heading up 9 was actually decenty as oppose to 35.. Only squiggly spot I felt was at the bridge in the beginning..

I set my tire pressure to 30 and that helped.. I suggest this to everyone who is ridding in the cold weather.. A bit harder to turn in but makes ice or cold pavement more forgiving..

When I arrived a couple of seconds later, I was wondering why everybody stopped then with just a touch of steer the rear swings out like butter. Down I go. After I got up and looked over "hi"

No serious injury. Now I know how icey road look. I'm surprised how the road can look as if it there was nothing on it.

I was not able to make it since I had my Truck to work on ..Was running fairly late and was not able to finish..Wow..i would think 35 would be less prone to ice, but I guess the altitude along with the overnight freezing added to the mix....Mt hammi is good since it is open, and closer to u..I might stick to stage rd. and Hammi also in the coming weeks since that is safer..Keep in touch !

Good riding with everyone. It's too bad a few folks went down. I ended up getting all squirrelly too. Fortunately I was able to save it (not sure how I did it). I tried to warn other riders but it was too little too late. The good thing is it looked like an easy fix for those who went down.

I'll set something up for a day that is blessed by the weather gods so keep an eye out.

Until then I'll just chill...my little scare spooked me the whole day for me and I was riding like $hit.

Glad everyone made home in one piece though.

Mt Ham was ice free as far as I could tell. No trees and lots of sunshine helps a lot.

As Hooli said, next week will be better, the temps the next few weeks or low 40's at night and 55-60's daytime.:)

in 5 minutes. As i feared, ran out of gas.

Very sorry to hear some guys went down.
Yes, it was cold yesterday. My palms
froze inside the gloves as i rode from San
mateo to Starbucks. Lets pick a warmer
day and the afternoon next time. Even if
there was ice from the night, it might
melt off if we start at 2 pm or so.

Shall make it well in time for next ride
and also have my tank full before we
start.

Put the accident behind and have a great
week you all.
