View Full Version : Due to popular request...Girl (Friendly) ride out of oakland is on! 1/21

We want to meet other female riders around the Oakland/Berkeley area!

I did not want to conflict with curve unit's ride (go to their site for info - www.curveunit.com), but since we were starting from a totally different city, going a different route which does not include the highway, and starting in the afternoon as opposed to the morning, I have been convinced by lots of BARF memebers that we should go for it!

So...

Sunday, 1/21
- Lunch at 2pm in either Berkeley or Oakland (Locale TBD). We'll ride out at 3pm through the castro valley hills and be back at our starting point around sunset.

I will lead if no one else volunteers (and we have a sweeper), but if you know the CV hills well, please volunteer.

Post here or PM me and I'll email you the details of the ride a few days before.

All skill levels are welcome. There will be both new riders and more experienced girls.

Hope to see you there!

Please keep me updated. If there is another Southbay rider going out I will tag along. It would be one long ride but I believe it would be well worth it.

I can't make this one (it my weekend with my kids) but definitely interested in riding with other females from the south bay area.

Is this a ladies only ride? I was under the impression that it was just 'girl friendly'?

If guys really want to come....they can, but really we want to meet other girl riders. So if you're a boy and you wanna come, at least bring a female friend on her own bike with you...

Most rides are all about the boys...even if there are other girls here and there...

Excuse me Sir! Yes you Mr. Spoiler, alias 1FastF4i. I'll have you know I have been on only one BARF group ride - last month's SF Monthly night ride and I can assure you I did NOT dump, ride recklessly or in any way endanger anyone near me. In fact the ride with 5ive other guys turned out to be a blast, with all of us safely reporting home.

That being said, my take is that you're trying to spoil our all girl fun. The subject line for the ride is entitled "girl friendly." And apparently you've targeted me to become the scape goat. Perhaps as a means to undermine womens' confidence in riding and in bonding? Or maybe you're put out you weren't invited. Either way - You, Sir, are coming off like a schmuck!

Hopefully there will be enough girls for a faster group and a slower group.

Looks like it should be a good turnout.

ooh, bummer deal accident prone. I'm in Alameda and would have liked to join you all. Too bad the dates are the same so that all the ladies have to choose between the two rides instead of being able to attend both. :shame

Or some of your CUnit Ladies, instead of heading over to that after party could come along for the ride. Lunch is at 2pm, still TBD.

Perhaps instead of shaking one's finger at the idea you could say "Awesome Idea thanks for looking out and expressing interest in female riders. I will catch you guys out next time! "

accident-prone
01-17-2007, 11:06 PM
I actually took the ride down when we realized the dates conflicted, but was pursuaded to keep it since for previously stated reasons we can't make the CU ride this time, and also it's in the afternoon, so motivated ladies can still make both. I even posted a link to your site.

You'll see it all if you read back in the thread...

Not trying to compete at all. You girls are fun to ride with.

Unfortunatly, not sure if I will still be able to make it - still send me the details, but I probably won't know until that morning if I'm up for it - I just scheduled another ride-along where I am applying to, and last time I stayed along until almost 3AM, so if it's that late again, I may be too tired to safely ride - but, like I said, that will be completly up in the air until that day, and since the ride is in the afternoon, I'd have a chance of getting some zzzz's so that makes it a little more likely that I can be there!!

" - Perhaps I don't think scheduling two rides that cater to the same population is an "Awesome Idea" but thank you for trying to put words, thoughts, and ideas into my mouth.

@ Accident_Prone - I know your intentions were good and I since I am involved with CU I obviously do like to meet other ladies that ride and am happy to see someone taking the initiative to try and organize a girl friendly ride. So hope you all have fun on sunday and be safe! Maybe next time we can talk before so that we don't have conflicting dates (or as SylverSun suggested) we could do something together. :)

That is all fine...and yes, we'd love to ride with you...as I have previously stated though, one of the girls is not freeway ready and walnut creek would require the freeway. It is also the only day that lined up for us in an entire month. Plus, we're the night shift in a way...Sunday is the only day we get to sleep in and 8am is always very early! 2pm is more our speed!

Keep me posted, a Sunday ride sounds like a lot of fun.

Also FYI, since you mentioned Castro Valley, a friend of mine who rides Palomares daily says there's been a lot of black ice out in the canyon, especially in the center of the lanes. Just something to keep in mind if we take that road.

The ride times do not directly conflict with each other. Seems the date conflict was done unintentionally and without malice.
Still, seeing one group (or it's members) getting territorial about a 'girl ride' seems counterproductive.
There are enough tits on two wheels for everyone....and for both rides. Enjoy!

I can speak for shumei's riding capabilities. I was on that SF ride and we all had a blast. And if you want to throw blows, I would put my money on shumei. She is nice, but I think she will kick any guys ass that owns an F4i....

Now, how am I supposed to meet a nice girl that rides if boys can't come along too? I go to these other rides and it is always men with a couple women, but they are usually with one of the guys. You can't take another man's girl, or another girl's girl for that matter....... If I can come along, please send me details too. Or if you are a lady that wants to meet a nice guy....PM me.

Well. Due to the unexpected turn in my Kawai's health I will not make it. Unless by some miracle the local Kawisaki dealer has an appointment open and I can find a lift there.

Whats going on? A recall on all 04 - 07 Kawasaki Ninja 250Rs... Due to a probable chance there is a puncture in the fuel tank. You know fuel and fire tend tend to get along real well.

I happen to be allergic to firey deaths of me and those around me so unless I can get it inspected and cleared I am not riding.

What fun is it to ride if half the time your worried about blowing yourself and others up?

How about this...You can come if you TAKE PICTURES. How does that sound?

I am starting to think I should ignore the warning and get the bike in next week to check it out.... Its not like I am going to be doing wheels and I haven't messed with the tank, except to put gas in it...

Another person with an 06 got his inspected and hadn't had a problem... Hummmmm

Okay put me back on! I can't worry my life away!

Caroline (The other girl who started all this nonsense) and I both have'em. Mine is an '06 and she has an '07. Mine's already been in the shop for warranty work. The engine was rebuilt but no nonsense about the fuel tank. Anyway, I take full responsibility if anyone blows up!

Can't wait to meet you!
