Ive got a set of these stick on LED pods that are designed to be stuck on the frame and light up the interior area of the bike, generally the engine area.

I'm wondering if it's legal to use these while driving (or even while stationary). I did a search of the California Motor Vehicle code and couldn't find anything expressly forbidding it. But that doesn't mean I didn't miss it.

The color I got is Amber (I figured that would be safe). They don't blink and there is a dimmer for brightness control. My goal in using these lights is to increase the visibility of my bike to other drivers. Safer when seen, right?

There is an example of installations here (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444876729 4&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309041116&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309041116&bmUID=1168413645461&bmLocale=en_US) (although the example uses blue lights instead of amber).
Thanks in advance for any advice or answers provided.

As long as the actual light is not visible. Meaning the light assemblies are mounted so the light points to the engine and any light seen is just what is reflected off the engine. If the lights / bulbs can bee see then there are a number of section that could apply to make them illegal.

K, thx, JPM!

That would explain why they say not to mount them with the lights facing out.

Depends; what color are they? And are they meant to replace the turn signals or just supplement them?

They are amber and supplement the stock signals. They fire straight out to the side like the signals some cars have above the front wheel wells/quarter panel.

I don't think anyone will bother you over them. As long as they are yellow / amber and not meant as a replacement to the stock ones.
