I bought a 00 Honda Civic Si at a salavage car auction. It needed some work which i did. I kept all my receipts for all the parts that i put on it and provided them to the CHP during the inspection.

I was surprised to find out from the CHP that the transmission had been replaced b/c the vin #s do not match. They will not sign off unless I provide them with reciepts for the transmission. But the thing is i didn't replace the transmission and it would be impossible for me to find who did since i bought it from the insurance company at the auction.

I could just make up a receipt but I don't see why i have to do something against the law to satisfy the law.

Attempt to get this additional receipt from the salvage auction ppl. If they won't make out another receipt. You tried, and now fill out a DMV Statement of Fact form. Explaining your attempts to get a receipt for the transmission. You didn't get any bill of sale. Take that into the CHP and later add it to the DMV papers.

I had trouble with a signature not collected on a title sign off. To no avail, I asked number of times for this person to sign off on a title. DMV said now fill out the STOF form explaining your attempts to get the signature. Finally they processed then title.

Thanks i'll try that. I wish the CHP would've told me that but they were just really rude and wouldn't answer any questions.:barf
