Help With CD DVD Drive

My cd/dvd drive suddenly does not read any discs. It says please insert disc when there is one already in the tray loaded. I tried to uninstall and re-install and it still does not recognize the disc. The device manager says everything is working properly.

Any advice?...

switch cables? try a different ide port?

I'd toss it - you can get one for like 20-30 bucks on www.pricewatch.com

I would uninstall all CD/DVD drivers, then disconnect the drive.

Reboot system then install drivers.

Make sure you didn't turn off the drive in your BIOS.

hmm...yeah maybe check the bios before you toss it - that seems a little hasty in hindsight :P

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try all the above. I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software issue. I have not messed with my bios, but I'll take a look and make sure it's enabled. I'm hoping it's not some crazy virus...

If all else fails, I'll just buy another one...
