whats the pace gonna be like, ive never been up to skaggs, so im gonna go really nice and easy, but i dont wanna hold anyone up, so if u guys are aiming for a spirited pace, i'll sit it out. otherwise, i'll probably give it a try since ive been hearing everyone talk about this route.

reefbaby
01-22-2007, 07:52 PM
go at your own pace cause we always re-group at the bridge, skaggs rd is about a 10 mile long strip with the best twisty's you'll probably ever see in northern Cali. definetly go within your riding capability............you'll love it!

It is one of the best roads for bikes cept it is prone to have riders go beyond their abilitites. It has been called "The Track" from others b4..Use your imagination on that one. It is a wide open, sweeping turn infested road located north of Sf by Santa Rosa off hwy 101 and Dry Creek Road which links to Stewarts Point..

..Count me in!

I've attempted to ride to SKAGGS about 2 years ago and the roads were cool, but one of the riders had a bad accident. We didn't get to SKAGGS...

It was fun watching the video, but I wouldn't dare to ride that fast. Seems really tempting, but I prefer to take it on the track....

Have fun guys and hopefully one day I'll get to join you all...

wow I would never recommend anyone riding twisties afrer MSF course.. I am sure insurance would cover damages but the question is. Do you want to really damage your bike?

I did not ride group rides nor twisties until I had 4k miles heck with almost 20k miles of riding I still feel like a newb.

I'm very tempted to go. I love twistys and I'm getting sick of the same HWY 35, HWY 9, Alices, crap.

How long does it take to get from Gellert BUX to Skaggs? If it's an hour or less I'm in. If it's more than an hour, then it just sounds too far.

Fizzers are Bad ass on the Twisties!! Actully, that's really where those bikes shine. Those little tires make the bike very nimble and easy to turn. If you have skill, you can easily find yourself hanging or even passing bigger newer bikes.

Bring it out man, just make sure you ride well within your skill level. You don't want any problems that far from home.

Its less then an hour for sure. Not a bad ride up there.

Don't worry about that man. I've been stopped back when I only had a permit. They won't sweat you. Especially since there’s gonna be a big group of us. If some idiot does decide to do some wheelies the police's main concern will be him. Not the quite guy with a permit.

Skaggs is good times. This used to be my backyard when I lived in Cloverdale. Well I might try to pick the group up as you guys pass North through Santa Rosa, I just need a good vantage point where I can see you coming and hop on the freeway.

I might be down and bring a few friends.
Pretty f ing far though. we live in walnut creek, is there fun roads on the way there. I kind of have A.D.D and need some twisties every 30 minutes or I go into seizure. Also - could we all meet up at the 37 and 101 cause we aren't about to go all the way to DC then to skaggs.

WELL, if it doesnt rain I'm guessing around 11:10am since well be leaving DC around 10:30am or better yet for all of those whos coming from walnut creek, vallejo, richmond (east bay) we can also meet at the Valero gas station of Dry creek road (skaggs exit) around 11:30-11:40am. let me ck weather and I'll be right back!

Kalvin00
01-25-2007, 12:10 PM
I might buzz out there, but just a word of caution to watch out for the Caltrans red cinder stuff on the road. Most places are clean but a few spots can sneak up on you.

with a permit he is fine. Just remember to ride within your comfort level and you will have a great day. I know ill be out there in full leathers having fun. Like reefbaby said, the Valero gas station is the best place to meet for Skaggs (186 Dry Creek Rd Healdsburg, CA 95448). Its right off 101 and minutes from skaggs

HEY, everyone who wants to, let me know though, i wanted to go take skaggs to stewart's point, to, (for some of us olema) and back home over the benecia bridge, OR through olema past stinson and take the san rafel bridge home.

FREEWAY > TWISTIES > COAST RIDE HOME....Sound any good?

well im prolyl closest to the bridge compared to everyone else in the east bay so i was thinking we can meet at the 76 gas station in Emeryville (its right off the exit). thatll give everyone a chance to top off before crossing the bridge.

if it doesnt rain i dont mind doing some twisties then coast ride back to 1, I guess well decide saturday and see how the weather turns out. just 1 reminder if we do go coast we need a full tank of gas cause there aint any gas stations on the way back down hwy 1 ! so how many people are down for this ride?

It looks like there are two options, #1 101 past healdsburg, skaggs to stewarts point, down the 1 to olema. From there some of us go to benecia bridge, others go down past stinson to the san rafel bridge. Option #2 101 to skaggs, skaggs to stewarts point, backtrack through skaggs and then the 101 back home. i personally am going to do #1, who's doing what? east bay guys, where do you wanna meet? I think a good place for EVERYONE to meet would be somewhere in novato because i think that's a point where Everyone travels through on the way to skaggs. any other ideas? throw'em out there

If you go down to Stinson you will have goat trail one way or other getting back to the freeway. You can cut off at Pt Reyes Station (before you get to town) toward Petaluma, then at Lake Nicasio turn south and go through Nicasio. Make a left on Lucas Valley Road back to 101. Excellent road all the way (LVR is great, but watch the downhill hairpins).

agree'd. Best advice anyone can give. Johnny I hope you set some ground rules and make sure everyone knows there limit. I hate to read later some dude thought he could handle it and then hits a guard rail. I know you and the others I rode with can handle it no problem just be safe out there.

I'll be at BUX and see what everyone decides.

While Alices does sounds like a good idea, I bet the roads are a lot more damp compared to Skaggs.

I don't think the north bay got hit with the steady drizzle that we got so it should be clear up there.

Is the ride still on after the rain today?...

And there's a chance of rain tomorrow, so Skaggs is probably going to be sketchy. Always has water running over the road well after rain has passed.

see you guys online here at 8am. if anyone has yahoo IM, you can find me as tdah73. i'll be online. might be easier to chat on IM rather than posting back and forth. would be really helpful if someone who lives by Skaggs can give us a more accurate update.

well, according to a credible source^^^^^it looks like it might work out afterall, once we get past the bay it looks like we should be fine. the roads are a little bit we here in concord with fog, but if it's blue up in skaggs, i'm going, this is the only day in a long tim that i'll be able to go

:laughing i was waiting for someone to comment on that. i only made that pass cause i could see 1/4 mile ahead. i know that section of road very well, and knew i was going to two-wheel-drift if i took that line due to the cracks in the asphalt. it was no biggie as i knew there were no cars about 20 seconds in advance.

Yea, dude with the Flat Black DUC went down at the toll booth.

He almost rearended another bike, so instead of hitting him, he swerved outta the way and layed it down. Nice save IMO.

I ran to lift his bike up since it was stuck on his leg. But after that, he got up and rode away. Looks like he made it out with a some minor cuts on his knee and some scuffs on the fairings. The Bars, levers and foot pegs seemed cool although one bar end was smashed up a little.

For the most part, the ride went better than it could have. I almost lost it big on the loose gravel up at Skaggs. After that I decided to take it easy the rest of the way home.

they are called Suburban Mechinery bars. Cost $150 but seeing as they just stopped selling them to resellers you can only get them straight from SM but these places might still have a few in stock but people on the 650r forum have been buying up since the announcement was made.

easy....take 101N to Dry Creek Rd. turn left. follow to the end and sharp left. follow up the hill to you get to Skaggs, should be signs pointing to the marina, ride to the bridge, done.
