I got turned onto Red Hat years ago, and then when they went all corporate and shit, I moved over to Fedora. Since then, I have absolutely no experience with any other Linux distros.
Lately, I've heard rumors that Fedora isn't the best out of box anymore (or ever was). I've read that a lot of manual configs I've struggled through (like video and DVD support or browser plugins) is all standard on other distributions.
So, I'm picking my head up to look around to see what else is out there. What is your favorite and why? Server fave? Desktop fave? General fave?

Debian for servers, Debian-derived OSes for everything else, mostly because apt-get makes sense to me.
Xubuntu with Xfce is my current favorite. I've played with Fluxbox on Xubuntu as well and thought it was purty but no more efficient than other WMs.

I've really only used Fedora, CentOS, and other Red Hat type distros, so I can't say if something else is better. But Ubuntu seems to be really popular.

I'm with OFG...FC4 user, but have seen that ubuntu is getting lots of steam and would be interested to try it if I ever had time to work on something other than my windows box...
I tried Ubuntu for a while and liked it quite a bit. Only reason I'm running Fedora Core 5 on the box now is the drive died and Fedora is a better choice here at work since some of our stuff is based on RHES.
Way back in the day I used to use Mandrake (8 years ago). I'm NOT a RedHat fan. They didn't even support RH9 for a year before they ditched it. So I've ditched them for personal use.
But then my personal machine is a Mac, which has unix built in...
Oh, and PC runnign XP for games.

I started on Redhat, and SlackWare. I still have a slackware file server/mp3 streaming box running, and a dual boot of Ubuntu (Inet, apps) and Win XP (Gaming) on my PC

I see some crazy answers for a guy who specifically asked not to be bothered with configuration and such.
BSD? Slackware? GENTOO!?? If you don't like configuring 3rd party software, you won't like configuring your kernel -- avoid these distros.
If you don't want to be bothered with not having software installed, get debian with all the gnu crap and 15490 packages.
Or Ubuntu/XUbuntu, or Mandriva, or pay for suse, or maybe fedora has the apps you need as RPMs or something.

Actually, they aren't crazy answers if you take it as an answer to the title; "Favorite Linux Distro".
BSD isn't Linux, BTW, but that is splitting hairs.
Shoulda used a softer term. :)
I'm fully aware that BSD isn't Linux. I was just being a punk :twofinger
