hey guys, i recently moved into a new place and now that the upstairs living area is dialed in, i can finally get to work setting up my shop in the basement! i've been looking foward to this part of moving the most! especially with the agreement negotiated with my gf that the upstairs is all hers and the basement is completely mine.

the biggest need right now is a large, strong workbench and strong storage cabinets that i can lock my power tools in.

ive been on cl looking for something i can customize atm. there are some nice workbenches and cabinets on the net but they are way too expensive. i'd rather spend the cash on tools

if you have any pics handy,, please post up! i need ideas....sorry if this is a repost but i have used the search function with no success

thanks

My work area is definetly nothing to write home about, but here it is. THe one thing I really like is the galvanized steel benchtop I just put up. My buddy does sheetmetal and hooked me up. As you can tell I'm in the middle of bodywork.

Put this together this christmas for myself, its a rolling work kart so I can take it around with me, instead of leaving tools in the driveway.

is that benchtop hollow? just curious whether a vice would work there

its 2 pieces of 1" plywood screwed together with a steel top glued on. It was basically one piece of flat galvanized steel with 2 bends put in it. I drilled 2 holes through it and the wood and mounted my vice on it no problem. You might find a sheetmetal place to cut and bend some galvy steel liike this. Heres a pretty killer setup:
