excel date help?

I typed "8-9", but it keeps changing that to "9-aug." How do I turn off this option? Thanks

Highlight the cells you want to change.

Toolbar; Format/Cells/Number/Date

Pick out the format ya want.

I found it, but I can't find out where to turn it off. I want 0800 - 0900, but its giving me aug9.

Change the cell format to text.. that should make it stop.

If you put an apostrophe before the number ( ' ), it will treat it as text.
