I heard aboot a process where a dent can be removed from a gas tank with pressure. Is this effective and will it work on my '98 Honda CBR900RR? And will it be cost effective or should I just buy a new tank?
I'm getting an insurance settlement so unless it is guaranteed and considerably cheaper I might just buy the new tank.

i know it can be done and depending on how big it is. I saw a thread here on barf a few days ago with some pretty good sized dents in tanks and they came out looking really nice after it was all said and done.
I did mine the cheapo way. i took the fuel pump out the bottom and got a long stick and stuck it inside the tank and bumped the dent out. then I got some bondo and filled it up, some primer and sandpaper and its ready for paint.
or you could just buy the tank... looks like the range from $470-$540 depending on color from mrcycles.com

you can make a weld on the side and pull them out and then sand off the weld.

pressurize a tank? might work on a tank that was round. Pressurize a formed sheet metal tank and it might push out the dent and probably the shape as well. If it is a small one with no paint damage a dentless guy might help. Otherwise.... weld/bondo/fill, sand, prime and paint.

A picture would help to determine the best way to remove it. As amf199 said if it a small one a paint less dent removal guy would be the best bet. With a bigger dent they have a tool that welds pins to the out side then they use a dent puller on it then cut off the pins. The less Bondo used the better. You might try talking to an auto body guy at a local shop during lunch and see if he can hook you up on the side. When I was doing body work I helped out a lot of people on the side for small things because most body shops don’t want to piddle with the small stuff. If some guy wanted to make some money he would open a garage and do work on bikes.
