I read that I was supposed to introduce myself here before posting anywhere else. Just trying to follow instructions. I am a new rider (just finished riding course this weekend. Perfect scores all around!) and I am looking for a sport bike to start out on. I saw some promising ads in the classifieds here and thought I would join up and reply to some. I am a starving student type, so budget is key. Any feedback is definitely appreciated. Or, if you are selling a bike that you think is right (and cheap), let me know.
Thanks,
Joe

A friend told me that this '87 GSXR 750 was probably way out of my league for a beginner. Now the post seems to be gone anyway, but any thoughts? I was thinking more along the lines of 500-650. Sound right?

Speaking of which, and maybe this is the wrong place to post, but is there any way to temporarily tone down something that is too powerful for the novice such as myself? Maybe it seems lazy, but I don't want to get something that I'm going to want to get rid of in a few months.

Welcome!
Leaving a bike stock would be the only way to keep it "toned down" that I know of; other than going 1 tooth up on the front sprocket, which may actually do more harm than good.
I've been riding 20 years, and for 14 of those I had a 250, so getting something that you want to get rid of might be a premature decision.

I have a 92 Yamaha seca 2, it has 600cc. It is a kind of mix between a street/touring bike. Its posted in the classifieds but it is a great beginner bike but also very fun to ride. I am only asking about 1600 obo.

Enjoy the board, and welcome to two wheels. This Seca is actually not a bad beginner's bike. :thumbup
