I have a 1988 zx600 I'm trying to get rid of.. It runs, but I don't know how long it will run. I believe the crank shaft is bent. I called a bike shop, and explained what was going on, and they said "I believe that the crankshaft is bent." I don't know much about bikes, so I don't know.

I know that I can get another engine from Fremont Cycle Salvage for 600 bucks, I just can't install it myself. If I could, thats what I'd be doing instead of selling it..

Its not pretty, in fact, its sort of ugly, its been painted over in a green color, the right side fairing is cracked alittle..

Other then that, its ok I guess. The frame is straight.

I don't have pics available online as of yet, but I do have some on my cellphone, and I can text them to anyone that wants pics..

I will get pics up asap.

Feel free to call me @ 408.830.7117, or email me @ cjplouffe@gmail.com

Thanks..

Cris..

Your post is so, honest. Maybe a naive question, but can the crank shaft be replaced, or does the entire engine have to be replaced?

I do not know.. I thought about that myself, but I didn't get a chance to call the bike shop and ask that question..

I will call them tomorrow, and ask how much one costs, and if its possible.

If the crank is bent then the bike must have taken one hell of a smack.

Me thinks that the shop was bullshitting you.

I have no idea, I only know what its doing, and I don't know how it got like that. I was riding in San Jose, and was on the way home, and it started grinding away at the cover on the left hand side. the black 5 inch wide round cover.. I don't know what caused it.

I actually fixed the problem, I was suggested that I take the cover over, and see if the bolt there is loose.. I took it off, and it was almost a half inch out, and loose enough to where I could turn it with my hand, I tightened it, and my bike is running stronger then it was.

So, my bike isn't for sale anymore, though nobody wanted it.. heh. Thanks to everyone who offered me advice.
