It looks legit, and to answer the question, yes, it would scare me.
Not so much that the engine cover is gone, but that the wing itself looks damaged.

planes crash land and parts fall off alot more than you think. You don't hear about it that much because usually the pilot is able to land the plane without injuries or very minimal injuries. the only time you hear about it are the catastrophic accidents when the plane flies into the side of a mountain.
I know of one guy who has been through two separate commercial crash landings and has decided not to test his luck again :laughing

Makes me think of that Twilight Zone episode with that creature on the wing that's tearing away at the plane.
But yeah, unless you see a white trail in the air (blowing fuel), you don't really have to fret about it. :laughing :laughing

Bird ingestions don't do that.
Looks like maybe the cowl wasn't secured and ripped off taking part of the pylon along with it.
I think actually the most danger would be to people on the ground if the engine came apart, or maybe to other parts of the plane....
Supposedly, a 4-engine airliner can fly safely with only 1 engine functioning...

Nah, it wouldn't scare me. I've been on a plane when one of it's engines caught on fire. I was sitting next to the window and I could see it smoke.
It was on my trip to the Philippines, via Seoul, Korea. We ended up landing in Alaska. They gave us all ice cream sandwiches while it snowed on the mechanics fixing the engine outside.

I'm just sayin'! The bird is more likely to either be ingested, or blown around the cowling, not bounce off against it. If it got ingested, it is less then pretty :wow

I bet the mechanics didn't properly prepare that 7th Fetzer valve with 3-in-1 oil and gauze pads before they installed the ball bearings.
