pretty damn cool, but, jeez, would you want to go that fast with just a shoulder belt? couldn't they put a harness in the thing? eek! :dunno

i wonder what that thing will do after they put a chip in it to up the boost

:laughing

:teeth

in another link of the video i saw, he comments at the end at when he was decelerating, he was anxious to get out of the car.... he slowed to what he thought was a really slow, safe speed, then went to open the door, but stopped himself right before he did, realizing he was still going 70mph :laughing

A tire delaminates at 250mph...you're dead no matter what. Might as well have no belt at all and have your last moment alive be pulling a Superman as you fly through the front window.

Top Gear shows on BBC2, which is sort of a subscriber based service in Britain, as I understand it. There are no ads, and the channel (and the shows that air on it) are paid for by license fees paid by its subscribers. Thus the Beeb isn't especially interested in outsourcing it, at least not directly.

The Discovery Channel used to air edited episodes, losing fifteen minutes to make room for commercials. Usually the fodder to be cut was the bits where they were calling Americans fat and lazy, as well as the Star in a Reasonably Priced car, since they're usually folks that Americans either don't know or don't care about, or both.

Of course, there are alternative means (http://www.finalgear.com) to watch the show in america.

not true. richard hammond survived when the tire came apart at 280 and he hit the dirt at 230. and now he's back on the air. on the very same show you just watched.

Think it is a bit different when you have the kind of role cage he had instead of being in a street car.

heh. unfortunately, knowing how people eventually end up crashing just about everything, we shouldn't have to wait too long to test that theory out. the only complication is, usually when people crash a car, a collision with something big and immovable is involved. but eventually someone's going to buy a veyron and crash it going over 200mph.

^^^^^^^^^

some fun math......

as stated, at 253mph, it is burning 1 gallon of fuel for every 2.1 miles it travels....

253mph devided by 60 (minutes in 1 hour), means it is traveling at 4.216 miles per minute.....

.......so therefore, at 253mph, it is burning roughly 2 gallons per minute !!!!!!

... last i checked in Germany, gasoline was closer to $6 dollars a gallon. so thats $12 per minute ($6x2minutes), or $720 per hour - JUST FOR FUEL !!!! not to mention tyres, maintnance, etc etc etc...

:wow

:nerd

it may go fast, but for some reason the looks dont do it for me.

I saw that thing in-person in a showroom in Berlin last summer. It is so much more amazing just sitting there in real life than going fast in the video. I can't imagine what it would be like to drive it. I'd probably pass out from joy.

Btw, I found this:

"The Bugatti Veyron will normally be limited to 360 km/h by an electronic chip. If you should wish to drive faster and test the 406 km/h limit, a Bugatti engineer will fly in with a set of high speed tires, and will aid you diving the fastest speed a street car can go. There are also plans to close motorways for high speed driving in Dubai – it just shows that a Bugatti Veyron owner will be the member of probably the most exclusive club on earth. "

I agree with the looks. I saw one on Mission street a few weeks ago, not crazy about how it looks, but still a cool car.
