Here's the thread from last time, so it's been a little over a month:

http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=190148&highlight=cager+take+me+out

Yesterday I was on my way home during lunch hour, riding down Harrison to 9th street. At 9th, the two right lanes can turn right, but the second one can also go straight. I was in the go-straight-or-go-right lane, stopped at the light with my turn signal on. Big ol' factory-original turnsignal. The light turns green, the car to my right makes a right, I go a little deeper into the intersection, following the little dots I'm supposed to follow, start my turn, and hear tires skidding on wet pavement... getting very loud and close. I look to my right and just beyond my elbow is the hood of an out of control taxi. It skidded, a little sideways, to within four inches of my right footpeg.

I was in my leathers with boots and back protector, full waterproofs on top of that, and my full messenger bag. It was dumping rain and I was on the 749. I didn't react at all. I didn't hit the brakes, gas, or change my line. I didn't even squirm. I didn't have time to do much, and I've been working on keeping my inputs at the controls slow and smooth. I almost pulled off at Desmoto to calm down a bit because I was a bit shaken up, but I figured it'd be better to just get home and get off the bike. And drink a beer in the shower.

The thing that bothered me the most was that, just like last time, I was behaving myself and riding normally when a cage came close to killing me. The only thing I can do differently in this case is keep to that curb lane. But my bike is white and blue and grey and black and my helmet and gear match, so I'm brightly visible, and my signal is big and bright and yellow, and the guy either didn't see me or didn't care. And he continued to go straight through other traffic that wanted to make the right turn.

Had something similar happen to me once....i was waiting at a red light, and a truck that i had recently passed screeched into the intersection at 25 mph, in the lane next to me...i laughed it off until i realized that if i hadn't moved out of her lane (she was talking on her cell phone), that could have been me. I was a bit shook up. Glad to hear you're ok though...yours was a bit closer than mine.

Glad you didn'y have to pay for the taxi's poor driving. Riding in the city is hell sometimes. There is no level of paranoia or care which is unwarranted. If you can imagine a stupid car trick somebody will do it while pointed at you. Good luck and do your best to never assume anything about your fellow road user's performance.

"And drink a beer in the shower."

LOL - Freaking classic

I go down harrison to 9th all the time and seriously wtf is with taxis - I think we should bring a class action assault with a deadly weapon charge against these fuckos

One of the first things the guy who's taught me the most about city-riding in LA taught me was, do not wait at the light in the middle of the lane. Always wait on the line.

When you're in the middle of the lane, as I'm sure you well know now, you're a sitting duck for a rear ending.

I know you're techinically legally not supposed to be ON the dotted line or whatever....
but take it from a future lawyer, fuck the law.

Yeah, i tend to stick tight to the middle line on 2 lane roads now...away from idiots trying to "sneak" by to make rights, and away from the idiots trying to run me over. :laughing

I know at least 1 a cab driver in SF who lost his license for good, because he was busted high on cocaine.

Avoid taxis like plague. They are the worst of all cagers.

...and today reaffirmed my belief that 2nd place goes to bmws.

To you, dipshit in the dirty grey ugly 540i on lombard w/ no brake lights who thinks its a good idea to slam on your brakes in front of me --
I WILL MURDER YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY WHEN I FIND YOUR HOME
