I had the las week off so I decided to get the hell out of town. I hadn't seen my grandmother in a while so I decided that Phoenix was as good as any place to ride to.
I got up an took off before the crack of dawn on Monday morning

Rather than drudge along on I-5, I decieded to take the fun way (this trip was completely free of I-5, I crossed over it twice but didn't do a single mile on it :cool)
Hwy 25 south of Hollister

Good thing I didn't plan on going back the same way, I don't think my bike will make it that far on one tank.

I stayed the night at a casino in Laughlin, sort of a fun gambling town.

After a few days in Phoenix visiting with relatives it was time to head home. Phoenix isn't the best town for the type of motorcycling that I like to do. I mostly just saw guys on HDs crusing up and down Scottsdale Rd or Cave Creek Rd. The "biker bar" that I went to didn't even give my friend and I the half a beer free when the keg blew. They just gave us two half beers and charged us for one like it was some sort of favor :wtf
Time to load up and head back to the Yay Area for sure

This morning I left Ridgecrest and headed up to Lake Izabella for some breakfast in Kernville. I asked the lady working there about Hwy 155.
Lady: "Oh, I wouldn't go up that way, especially on a motorcycle, it is way to steep and curvy."
Me: "ok."
She was right 155 sure does suck :p

nice trip dude. if you're going to get rid of the SV, and thinking of a BMW, why don't you consider the vstrom 1000 or 650 as a cheaper alternative. both good bikes. not sure if you had those two in your sights as well.
i am leaning towards the vstrom 1000.

I don't think I can get rid of the SV now, I sort of beat the shit out of it this week. :devil
Now my SV needs:
front brake pads
new clutch fluid
oil and filter change
valve adjustment
air filter
new plugs
new tires

The passes might open up early this year since there hasn't been much snow. We did get dumped on a few weeks ago but not much more seems to be on the horizon. Hawthorne might just come early this year.
Anyone have the inside scoop on pass info from CalTrans?

This is the secret to finding great moto roads in unfamiliar areas. If a cager recommends a particular road, it sucks. If a cager hates a particular road, it rocks.
Great report and pics. :applause

Fuel wasn't a problem at all. You just had to watch your trip meter and if it said that next gas was 52 miles, make sure you can make it 52 miles or fill up.

What great pics! I'd love to do a ride like that sometime, but have concerns about going it alone. I'd love it for the freedom aspects and not having to deal with people, but I worry about safety. I also worry about all the maintenance I'd have to do on my bike when I got back!
Your grandma is adorable. Good for you for going out to visit her! :)

What maintenance? That's why you bought a Zook.
There isn't any additional maintenance required for a few thousand miles other than oil/filter, chain lube/clean, then lots of tire wear and gas in a very short period of time.
